🏃♂️ Acceleration, Change of Direction, and Decision-Making: The Hidden Keys to hamstring injury prevention 🧠 Did you know? 24% of hamstring injuries happen during short-distance accelerations (0-10m), often under pressure from opponents. More injuries occur during these short bursts than at top speed! 🚑 A recent study analyzing 63 match injuries (2013-2020) revealed that direct and indirect player pressure, combined with imbalance and quick accelerations, significantly contribute to sudden-onset hamstring injuries in professional football players. Why ❓ Direct and indirect pressure not only increases the physical load but also adds cognitive 🧠 demands. Athletes must process complex information, make split-second decisions, and react swiftly—all while maintaining control under intense pressure. Athletes facing these situations are more vulnerable to injuries as they try to balance high-speed decision-making with physical execution whilst dealing with the motor-cognitive interference. 💡 Coach’s takeaway: Injury prevention strategies should include short-distance accelerations that mimic the direct and indirect pressure athletes face.
