Did you know that 40% of all food in the U.S. is wasted? Meanwhile, millions of people face food insecurity every day. Hunger at Home is tackling this challenge by repurposing unused, good food to serve those in need. Since 2015, they’ve provided an incredible 15 million meals to the community. Here’s another eye-opener: just 25% of the billions of pounds of food wasted could solve food insecurity within our communities. Today, our San Jose Robert Half team had the honor of volunteering with Hunger at Home. Together, we packed nearly 500 meals! These meals will be shared immediately with the community at the PayPal Park distribution center in partnership with multiple nonprofits. Organizations like Sysco make this work possible by donating good, unused food to ensure it gets to those who need it most. While this is just one step in a larger fight against hunger, the experience was both humbling and inspiring. There’s still so much more work to be done. If you’re looking to donate, or volunteer, I highly recommend checking out this amazing organization. Every small act can make a big difference! #GivingBack #HungerRelief #CommunityImpact #VolunteerWork

This project was both fun and saddening. Over 1000 children told us why food is important to them. Many showed us that systemic #hunger issues are recognized even at such a young age. Some notable quotes: "If we can conquer space, we can conquer childhood hunger." "Hunger is something no one should struggle with or be judged for." "They got money for wars but can't feed the poor." "If you can't feed 100 people, then just feed one. One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well." "Food is important to me because I have food but not everyone has food." "Food is important to me because it helps you physically and mentally. Don't stop eating because you're unhappy with your body." "A pointed commentary on the class divide, how food is sustenance for some and decadence for others." #HungerActionDay #HungerActionMonth
It's Hunger Action Day! Today, we filled the James Renshaw Orchard with 1,500 orange paper plates decorated by local children to raise awareness about food insecurity. The 1,500 plates represent the number of students in the Erie Public School District who receive a bag from the Second Harvest BackPack Program weekly. The program discreetly places kid-friendly, nutritious foods in participating children’s backpacks on Fridays to ensure they have what they need over the weekend and during school breaks. 1 in 5 children in northwest Pennsylvania experience food insecurity. Join us during Hunger Action Month! Every action counts - whether you donate, advocate, volunteer, or spread the word. Let's end hunger together. www.nwpafoodbank.org #HungerActionDay #NWPAFoodBank #HungerActionMonth

As a continuation to my post from Monday where I shared about my involvement as a Board member for the School Garden Support Organization, I wanted to expand on my “why”. And why my purpose and passions are centered on supporting equitable learning, school gardens, sustainability, and representation. Today, the majority, ~70% of agricultural workers are foreign born migrants. They are the backbone of our food supply chain, yet often are not given basic human rights or access to the systems/programs we all take for granted. Often, they are the center of vitriolic language and unfair policies; Our farm workers do not receive the respect they deserve. I would like to see dignity and pride in farm work restored. I would like to see agriculture in all forms seen as a meaningful career path. An industry that is valued as significant and has high importance; And that we support through our education system. How can we honor our migrant workers, and the legacies of Caesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta? I think it starts by supporting organizations that teach youth the importance of gardens, farming, sustainability, and communities. It is then we can truly “Honor the hands that harvest your crops.” - Dolores Huerta #purpose #passion #advocacy #nationalfarmworkersawareness #sustainability #community #leadership https://lnkd.in/gccx4yyy
🌱 It's National Farm Worker Awareness Week! This week we honor the farm workers who are the backbone of our food supply and celebrate their invaluable contributions to our communities. 🍇 Regardless of the multitude of challenges farm workers face, such as climate change, immigration, lack of worker protections and pesticides, farm workers remain resilient and continue to work tirelessly to ensure that there’s food on our tables. 🔦 Stay tuned this week as we shine a spotlight on the challenges and issues impacting these essential workers and learn how you can help the workers who put food on our tables. 🤲🏽 This week, please consider making a donation to the UFW Foundation. Hunger is just the tip of the iceberg. On this #HungerActionDay, we want to highlight the incredible work of organizations across New Jersey that are tirelessly fighting food insecurity. However, hunger is often a symptom of deeper, interconnected factors—what the health sector refers to as social determinants of health. From income inequality and unemployment to housing conditions, education, and access to healthcare, these are all factors that play a crucial role in exacerbating food insecurity. At the Franklin Food Bank, we recognize that addressing hunger alone isn’t enough. That's why we’ve expanded our services beyond food distribution with programs that offer health screenings, SNAP navigation, a client choice market, nutrition workshops, financial literacy, and even school distribution programs—ensuring a holistic approach to community care. To our volunteers, donors, and sponsors—thank you for making it possible to tackle hunger from all angles. Together, we go beyond food security and strive to improve the overall well-being of those we serve, offering support in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Want to learn more about our services? Today is #HungerActionDay, and CFBNJ is calling on EVERYONE to take action against hunger - in New Jersey and across the country. Donate, volunteer, advocate, or spread the word online! According to a new report by the USDA, in 2023, food insecurity reached its highest levels in nearly a decade. The number of people living in food insecure households in the U.S. increased to 47 million, including nearly 14 million children. In a statement, CFBNJ President & CEO Elizabeth McCarthy responded to the new data: "Together with all sectors of society, from our neighbors in need to government and nonprofit partners to individual, community, and corporate supporters, we can greatly reduce food insecurity in New Jersey and across the country."
