Based on CoreWeave pricing, Andreessen Horowitz's payback on hardware investment from charging portfolio companies could be less than a year. It also helps them compete with NVIDIA’s nVentures when investing in AI start-ups that need access to scarce GPU hardware. #artificialintelligence #startups #investment

Good investors provide start-ups with the resources, knowledge, skills, connections, capacities that are absent or difficult to procure. money is only one resource; but it is the most fungible here … a16z has apparently built up a cluster of Nvidia GPUs, to rent out to its portfolio companies. This is an interesting turn on their ‘entrepreneur service’ model - no-one can get enough GPUs right now, and many startups don’t have the money or bargaining power to to do this themselves, so a16z provides that as a service, and of course as a lever to get into hot deals. other than cash… what else can you provide James Green views on what investors could and should assist with #startups #resources #investors #fungibleresources https://lnkd.in/gEsANiZJ

Scoop w/Riddhi Kanetkar: VSim, a Manchester-based startup founded by former engineers at Nvidia, is set to raise a major funding round to build out simulation infrastructure for computing. Founded last year, the nascent business is in talks to raise around $22 million in a deal led by EQT Ventures as it looks to hire talent and expand its product offering into VFX and robotics. VSim's founding team worked at the $3 trillion chip manufacturer for over a decade, helping to build out the company's physics engines. https://lnkd.in/gA8TPCHi NVIDIA IS REPORTEDLY IN TALKS TO INVEST $75 BILLION IN ELON MUSK'S AI STARTUP, ΧΑΙ futuretech Nvidia is reportedly in discussions with Elon Musk about investing in his Al startup, xAl, which supports the Grok chatbot on Musk's X platform. xAl is currently aiming to raise billions in funding, with an estimated valuation of around $40 billion, and is considering strategic partners like Nvidia. Musk is planning a larger funding round in January that could push xAl's valuation to as high as $75 billion. A partnership with Nvidia would be advantageous, given Musk's companies, including xAl and Tesla, depend significantly on Nvidia's advanced chips for Al development. Such a collaboration would align with Nvidia's strategy of building partnerships that drive innovation and strengthen its platform. #TechCrunch #technews #artificialintelligence #startup #fundraising #ElonMusk

Andreessen Horowitz (#a16z), one of the most successful and active funds in the world, is leading the global VC world once again with a bold new strategy: Building an in-house infrastructure of over 20,000 #GPUs to secure global #AI #Deals. It's not a surprise since a16z has been actively investing in AI and technology infrastructure. They already have a dedicated $1.25 billion Infrastructure fund, showing their strong focus on supporting companies in the AI space. #EarlyStage #startups often focus on raising cash, but for those building AI tools, GPUs are the #newgold, the problem is that high-end GPUs used for AI and machine learning can cost thousands to tens of thousands of dollars each and paying these amounts isn't sustainable for early-stage startups. The cost of 20,000 GPUs would be a significant investment of a6z's portfolio companies, likely in the hundreds of millions of dollars and building such a large GPU infrastructure could give the VC firm an advantage in AI-related investments. It's a #SUPER unusual move for a VC firm, as they typically invest in companies rather than building extensive hardware infrastructure IN-HOUSE. Once again, Andreessen Horowitz is ahead of the game, proving that money alone isn't enough to support startups these days. This might soon affect the entire investment industry (and possibly GPU prices). I believe the traditional investment model for big/huge VCs (give us equity - we'll give you money) will likely evolve soon. My question is, can micro-funds and smaller VCs keep up with this new game in the long run? #VentureCapital #InvestmentStrategy #earlystagestartups
