Scoop w/Riddhi Kanetkar: VSim, a Manchester-based startup founded by former engineers at Nvidia, is set to raise a major funding round to build out simulation infrastructure for computing. Founded last year, the nascent business is in talks to raise around $22 million in a deal led by EQT Ventures as it looks to hire talent and expand its product offering into VFX and robotics. VSim's founding team worked at the $3 trillion chip manufacturer for over a decade, helping to build out the company's physics engines. Andreessen Horowitz, a leading venture capital firm (also know as A16z) with $42 billion in assets under management, has strategically acquired thousands of GPUs, including many of Nvidia's H100 processors, to bolster AI startups. A16z called their plan "Oxygen." They're letting their startup companies use these GPUs for less than market price. In return, A16z gets a piece of the company. Take Luma AI, for example. This video generation startup picked A16z as their main investor because of the GPU access. For small companies like Luma, these chips can make or break their success. A16z isn't new to AI. They've backed big names like xAI, Mistral, and OpenAI in the past two years. But now, they're giving startups the tools they need to build AI. This move puts A16z in a strong spot. Good investors provide start-ups with the resources, knowledge, skills, connections, capacities that are absent or difficult to procure.  money is only one resource; but it is the most fungible  here … a16z has apparently built up a cluster of Nvidia GPUs, to rent out to its portfolio companies.
