HTwenty had the privilege of attending another captivating Latam Tech Forum event organized by Riverwood Capital in Miami recently.
⠀
The atmosphere was vibrant and dynamic, and it was truly inspiring to witness Series B transactions unfolding for top-tier companies. This just reinforces our belief that companies can still achieve remarkable outcomes, even in challenging times.
⠀
Despite the hurdles that the technology industry may face, one thing remains constant: technology never rests. Regardless of economic downturns or uncertainties, technology always perseveres.
⠀
Economic upheavals don't have to spell doom for technology companies, especially innovative ones. Technology operates independently of economic cycles, and it persists through all conditions - as they say, amidst chaos lies opportunity.
⠀
We extend our gratitude for the invitation to participate and engage in these enriching conversations.
⠀
Additionally, we had the pleasure of hosting a casual networking lunch as part of the LTF event, bringing together over 20 portfolio companies, investors, advisors, and thought leaders for fruitful discussions and idea exchange. A heartfelt thank you to all who joined us and contributed to the dialogue.
Also a very special thanks to Federico Storani and Francisco Alvarez-Demalde for inviting us once again to Riverwood.
⠀
Looking forward to reconnecting next year!

Last week was far from ordinary (English video transcript below).
On Thursday 13th June, P&R’s very own Matthias Riechert and Christian Schulz joined more than 100 bright minds at the Axxion S.A. Fonds-Forum conference in Pertisau, Austria.
Matthias had the honour of speaking on a panel with three other esteemed figures in finance and investing: Armin Clemens, Thomas Umlauft, Ph.D. and Elmar Peters.
In the video, Matthias answers the question of the role technology plays in our portfolio.
“I think you'll find something that people haven't discovered yet,” says Matthias, as he tells the story of the many small, private companies with succession issues. Serial acquirers are perfectly suited to systematically buy up such companies.
This story links back to P&R’s unique investing approach, which focuses on deep fundamental analysis of small and micro cap businesses. With seven such serial acquirers in our portfolio and very nice “sticky returns”, we invest in specialised companies that seek out small companies active, for example, in the technology sector.
To unveil Matthias’ insights, watch the full video below.

Follow along in English:
I am looking for areas where technology plays a very important role and I would like to name one area, that often, I don’t think gets much attention:
In Germany alone, around 190,000 small companies, i.e. private companies, will come onto the market in the next few years because there are succession problems. Many companies - around 40% of them - have a turnover of between 1-25 million [Euros].
This means they are often too small for private equity or large companies to take over. In other words, there are few who buy these companies. Now you can imagine, there are specialised so-called serial acquirers, often called “buy-and-build companies” in English. In other words, listed companies that specialise in systematically buying up small, private companies. Interestingly, there are a lot of them in Sweden.
I think it's an incredibly interesting market that will probably ensure there is a lot of tailwind for decades to come, and if you can invest in specialised companies that seek out small companies that are active in the technology sector - software, for example - then I think you'll find something that people haven't discovered yet.
We have seven such serial acquirers in our portfolio. Two of them are active in the software sector and, just to give you an idea, small software companies, for example the software company that does this IT thing here--this Wooclap, this voting tool.
There are many such software companies. In the DACH region, I estimate there are probably between six and eight thousand. They often have between five and twelve employees, but have very nice "sticky returns", i.e. very nice subscription/SASS-like revenues. That means when you buy them, you are often buying something similar to an annuity stream.

When people talk about the legendary groups that shaped Silicon Valley—like the "PayPal Mafia" 💸 or the elusive "The Apple Mafia
" 🧠—they often overlook the true powerhouse that really built the foundation of modern tech: Bell Labs. While everyone is caught up in the hype of startups 🚀 and secretive tech elites 🤫, the unsung heroes at Bell Labs were quietly inventing the future—creating the transistor, laser, UNIX, and programming languages like C and C++ that power today’s world 🌐.
🏆 With 10 Nobel Prizes and 5 Turing Awards, this small research division of AT&T wasn't just keeping up, it was rewriting history 📜—long before today’s “tech giants” even existed. Now, here’s the question: How many Nobel Prizes do the big players of Silicon Valley have? 🤔 Exactly. Bell Labs was the real deal, pushing boundaries when innovation meant true breakthroughs, not just updates or features. 🔥

MSP for Moray & Minister for Business: Promoted by Richard Lochhead at Moray Constituency Office, 80 South Street, Elgin, Moray, IV30 1JG
I’m reading how Bell Labs in the US was “the greatest industrial laboratory in history” where “the digital age was spawned” with an array of inventions ranging from the transistor to mobile phone technology and the list goes on and on.
And all of this can be traced back to Alexander Graham Bell who was born in Edinburgh in 1847 known primarily for inventing the telephone and who went on to fund research laboratories.
Before emigrating Bell even had a couple of spells as a “pupil-teacher” of elocution in Elgin, Moray in my constituency (and where I live!). He later spent his honeymoon at Covesea, Lossiemouth during a return visit to Europe!
His legacy and impact is astonishing.
