#MeetJDN • Last week – at Belgium's largest construction site – we prepared the next generation for a career in construction. 🛠️👷 100 Antwerp students rolled up their sleeves at our Scheldt tunnel site. They made formwork, could drive a mini-excavator and got to see different construction site machinery. All this under the guidance of our talented colleagues, who took on the role of teacher for a day. By introducing students to our world of construction, we make their theoretical lessons tangible. We let them experience what we do and what a technical job truly entails. To inspire them to pursue technical roles in the future, as they are ultimately our employees of tomorrow. 📷 Frederik Beyens, Stad Antwerpen • #jandenul #DNAdenul #Antwerp #JDNproject #Oosterweel

The recent EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA) Annual Meeting at the Omni Las Colinas Hotel was a resounding success. With a schedule chock full of meetings, receptions, educational sessions, a cornhole tournament and an awards dinner, one came away with a great sense of where #EIMA and the #EIFS industry stand now as well as the bright future the industry is poised to have. As seen from the YouTube video below, the meeting was designed to give members of the EIFS industry an experience and content that is extremely difficult to get anywhere else - especially in one venue. Examples include: * Educational Session from Donna Laquidara-Carr, Industry Insights Research Director, of Dodge Data & Analytics. Donna's presentation, "Construction Industry Top Trends," gave meeting attendees a first-hand look on the dynamics of the construction market and a forecast of what is to come. * Keynote Session from Joseph Lstiburek, founding principal of the Building Science Corporation. Referred to as "the Dean of North American building science" from the The Wall Street Journal, Joe delivered an informed - and entertaining - presentation on "The Evolution of EIFS in the Era of COVID and Carbon Counting." * "EIFS in Texas" was a moderated panel discussion that featured first-hand insights from EIFS experts in the Lone Star State, including Dennis Deppner of Master Wall Inc., Andy Boyd of Galindo & Boyd Wall Systems, Kevin Maxwell of PRIME WALL SYSTEMS, LLC., Keith Giddens of Baker Triangle and Kyle Lilly of Sto Corp. * Meetings and Updates from EIMA's Strategically-Aligned Working Groups. When the Board of Directors approved the industry's strategic plan in the summer of 2022, it adopted a structure where the goals of the industry are interlinked with the goals of the board and the working groups. This integrated approach ensures that each strategic initiative is always being worked on because there is at least one working group tied to it. Thanks go to all 19 sponsors who supported the meeting, including: Master Wall Inc., Sto Corp., Dryvit Systems, Sika USA, ADEX Systems Inc., Dow, Saint-Gobain ADFORS, Gypsum Management and Supply, WACKER, Wind-lock Corporation, ROCKWOOL North America, MKS Plastics LLC, Foam Products Corporation, Association of the Wall and Ceiling Industry Media, Western Wall & Ceiling Contractors Association, Wall And Ceiling Alliance (WACA), Operative Plasterers' & Cement Masons' International Association - OPCMIA, and Gypsum Association.www.eima.com #eima #eifs #annualmeeting #risingtides #construction #climatechange #housingaffordability #buildingperformance #modernbuildingmaterials #contractors #distributors #manufacturers

Because the volunteer members and leaders of trade association are investing significant time and resources to attend industry meetings, the staff of the EIFS Industry Members Association (EIMA) tries very hard to make it worth the members' while. Consequently, one of the primary goals of each meeting is to provide content and programs - focused solely on the #EIFS industry - that are not readily available elsewhere. EIMA's annual meetings are designed to do just that with enticing venues, appealing networking opportunities, a first-rate members' dinner and architectural awards program, outstanding educational programs and time-efficient working group meetings that focus on industry-wide efforts and programs. The video below focuses on industry education highlights, and it complements the other video on networking that can be found here https://lnkd.in/eAhJwrg8. www.eima.com #industrymeetings #tradeassociations #risingtides #goeifs #buildingperformance #aestheticdesign #financialvalue #sustainability #modernbuildingmaterials #construction #valuechain

I recently came across a call for stories at the #EuropeanYearOfSKills official website. I am not sure if this campaign continues, but I have a story I would like to share with you. It is about the educational journey I took many years ago, which still continues professionally. You may find it inspiring! After successfully completing my studies in civil engineering at the Technological Education Institute of Piraeus in 1999, I was eager to continue my studies in architecture. So, I decided to sit the national exams for graduates qualifying for admission to the Polytechnic Universities. In 2000, I succeeded in the national exams and enrolled at the School of Architecture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. However, I did not attend at the time because as I was living and working in Athens, I was hoping I would be eligible for a transfer to the School of Architecture of the National Technical University of Athens. Unfortunately my application for a transfer from Thessaloniki to Athens was turned down and as I could not relocate to Thessaloniki due to my placement, later on, as permanent staff in the Prefecture of Piraeus, I gradually abandoned the idea of studying further… That was until the idea to go for a postgraduate degree abroad came up! Studying for a postgraduate degree meant I would be able to take a leave on educational grounds and return to my work placement afterwards. I remember I felt really curious about studying town planning. I wanted to understand more about the world we live in and to expand my knowledge and horizons. So, I applied for the postgraduate course in Planning Practice and Research at the School of City and Regional Planning at Cardiff University and luckily I was accepted. Studying at Cardiff University / Prifysgol Caerdydd was an invaluable experience for me. Besides theoretical reading, learning and reflection on different issues concerning our lives, in time I realized that I gained a new perspective on things. My advice to anyone looking to learn new skills, whether in typical education in a university or not, would be to choose a course in an upcoming field you would be curious to learn. Also, as developments in some industries are very fast paced, bear in mind that you need to keep up with your field (for example by attending short courses or learning through your professional network). All in all, from my experience I have learned that if you want to improve yourself you have to keep trying, you have to keep learning! #skills #successes #failures #growthmindset #storytelling #inspiration
