Renewables Surge to 30% of Global Electricity in 2023, Setting New Record. How did we do it? Wind, solar, hydro, and biomass combined to supply 30% of the world's electricity for the first time, according to think tank Ember´s latest report. Of these, wind & solar are the clear leaders, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the renewable energy mix. While the United States, Latin America, Europe, and India all saw significant growth - it was China that made up half of renewable global additions. Germany has achieved a new record high, raising its renewable energy share to 58% of its electricity consumption in the first half of 2024 with wind, solar, biomass and hydropower. In fact, 24% of the 58% came from onshore wind generation, according to the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). According to the SUN DAY Campaign's review of the latest Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) data, renewable energy sources like biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, and wind now comprise nearly 30% of the total U.S. electrical generating capacity. Impressively, solar has been the largest source of new capacity for the past nine months and is poised to become the nation's second-largest capacity source, trailing only natural gas, within three years. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #SustainableFuture #EnergyCapacity #GreenEnergy

Renewable energy resources are classified as “renewables.” And renewable energy accounted for more than half of 2022’s new energy generation. Energy sources such as sunlight, hydroelectric, biomass, geothermal, or wind fit into the category of “renewable.” But the combination of this newfound demand coupled with ambitious international renewable energy targets has exposed holes within the broad energy infrastructure supply chain. It is not often that we have to perplex our minds by thinking about supply chain troubles. But the last two years have shown many how vulnerable this infrastructure can be to disruptions. The end effect of not receiving a package on your porch often starts thousands of miles away. Although global sentiment is attuned toward renewable energy, the recent shortages of electronics, manufactured components, and international political stress have put a damper on the growth of renewable energy stability. Another obvious example of this is how the unfolding events between Russia and Ukraine showed an immediate effect on the price of gas — both due to supply of oil as well as how various countries have chosen to respond politically. #renewableenergy #climatechange #forwardthinking
