Renewables Surge to 30% of Global Electricity in 2023, Setting New Record. How did we do it? Wind, solar, hydro, and biomass combined to supply 30% of the world's electricity for the first time, according to think tank Ember´s latest report. Of these, wind & solar are the clear leaders, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the renewable energy mix. While the United States, Latin America, Europe, and India all saw significant growth - it was China that made up half of renewable global additions. 🌱🔋 Renewable energy is on the rise! In 2023, wind and solar power drove global renewable electricity generation to a record 4,748 TWh, marking a 13% increase. Solar saw a 67% surge in new capacity, with China leading the way, while wind power hit a new high with 115 GW of capacity added. 🌍💨 China continues to dominate the renewable sector, but other regions like the U.S., Europe, and Brazil are making significant strides, especially in biofuels. With renewables now making up 14.6% of global energy consumption, the future is looking cleaner—though fossil fuels still hold sway for now. From all indications, it appears that solar energy is on track to becoming the second-largest energy source within three years for the United States of America (USA). Supporting this projection was a recent review by SUN DAY Campaign, a non-profit organization founded 32 years ago to promote sustainable energy. The entity relied on data released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The data indicate that the mix of renewable energy sources (i.e., biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, wind) is now nearly 30% of total U.S. electrical generating capacity. Moreover, for the ninth month in a row, solar was the largest source of new capacity. This level of progress by the US is a commendable demonstration of its commitment to lowering its emissions. Developed nations must do their part in addressing the climate change phenomenon. This is the kind of action we need. #solar #energy #renewable See link to learn more about the increasing use of solar power by US authorities: https://lnkd.in/g_QzQRyn.

The second half of 2024 continues to show some great promise for the advancement of the UK's energy landscape. In September, the very last #coal power station closed for good. And renewables now looks like it will lead fossil fuel generation for the year as a whole. And the trend will continue. We also saw more than 25% of new cars sold in November being fully battery electric. #BEV 2025 now needs to take the baton. #renewables #netzero #decarbonisation #wind #solar

FACT: Renewable energy will soon be the world’s top source of electricity Renewable energy sources – such as water, geothermal, wind and solar – are available in every country, and their potential is yet to be fully harnessed. Almost 30 per cent of global electricity comes from renewables today. (IEA) By 2050, 90 per cent of the world’s electricity can and should come from renewable energy. (IRENA) The world is set to add as much renewable power in the next 5 years as it did in the past 20. (IEA) Renewables are projected to become the largest source of global electricity generation by early 2025, surpassing coal. (IEA) In many regions, renewables are the fastest-growing energy source.
