According to the SUN DAY Campaign's review of the latest Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) data, renewable energy sources like biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, and wind now comprise nearly 30% of the total U.S. electrical generating capacity. Impressively, solar has been the largest source of new capacity for the past nine months and is poised to become the nation's second-largest capacity source, trailing only natural gas, within three years. #RenewableEnergy #SolarPower #SustainableFuture #EnergyCapacity #GreenEnergy

DOE simplifies renewable energy application process The Department of Energy (DOE) has simplified the renewable energy (RE) application process to improve the ease of doing business and meet national RE goals. In a virtual press briefing Friday, DOE Secretary Raphael Lotilla said the new guidelines allow RE developers to start permit processing, surveys, and feasibility studies before the official 25-year contract begins. The developers will receive a Certificate of Authority (COA) from the DOE to proceed with these activities, which were previously allowed only after contract approval. The COA validity varies by project type: three years for biomass, geothermal, hydropower, ocean, and wind projects; two years for floating solar; and one year for land-based solar. The DOE can revoke the COA if developers do not make reasonable efforts within the given time.... https://bit.ly/4c0xUgW #Philippines #Business #RenewableEnergy #SoutheastAsia Kris Crismundo Via PNA

Germany has achieved a new record high, raising its renewable energy share to 58% of its electricity consumption in the first half of 2024 with wind, solar, biomass and hydropower. In fact, 24% of the 58% came from onshore wind generation, according to the Center for Solar Energy and Hydrogen Research in the south-western state of Baden-Württemberg (ZSW) and the German Association of Energy and Water Industries (BDEW). Solar generated 94 TWh across the European electricity market during the third quarter of 2024, according to a latest report. The result is the largest figure for solar generation on record, representing a 15% increase on the third quarter of 2023. The biggest contributors were Germany, Italy and Spain respectively. Renewables, consisting of solar, wind, biomass, hydro and waste, accounted for 50.8% of overall European power generation during the July-September period. Renewables Surge to 30% of Global Electricity in 2023, Setting New Record. How did we do it? Wind, solar, hydro, and biomass combined to supply 30% of the world's electricity for the first time, according to think tank Ember´s latest report. Of these, wind & solar are the clear leaders, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the renewable energy mix. While the United States, Latin America, Europe, and India all saw significant growth - it was China that made up half of renewable global additions. From all indications, it appears that solar energy is on track to becoming the second-largest energy source within three years for the United States of America (USA). Supporting this projection was a recent review by SUN DAY Campaign, a non-profit organization founded 32 years ago to promote sustainable energy. The entity relied on data released by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The data indicate that the mix of renewable energy sources (i.e., biomass, geothermal, hydropower, solar, wind) is now nearly 30% of total U.S. electrical generating capacity. Moreover, for the ninth month in a row, solar was the largest source of new capacity. This level of progress by the US is a commendable demonstration of its commitment to lowering its emissions. Developed nations must do their part in addressing the climate change phenomenon. This is the kind of action we need. #solar #energy #renewable See link to learn more about the increasing use of solar power by US authorities: https://lnkd.in/g_QzQRyn.

As of now, 41.8% of the UK’s energy mix was due to renewable energy sources, with a massive 30% of it being from wind, 6% from biomass, 4.5% from solar and 1.3% from hydro. This is a major improvement seeing that only 10 years ago, 10.7% of the UK’s energy mix was due to renewable energy sources, close to the 2035 decarbonisation target!! 🚀🚀
