Bring nature back to cities 🌱 More than half of the world’s population lives in cities. By 2050, it is projected that two in three people will live in an urban centre. Cities consume 75 per cent of the planet’s resources, produce more than half its global waste and generate at least 60 per cent of greenhouse gas emissions. As cities grow, they transform the natural world around them, potentially leading to droughts and land degradation. But cities do not need to be concrete jungles. Urban forests can improve air quality, provide more shade and reduce the need for mechanical cooling. Preserving cities’ canals, ponds and other water bodies can alleviate heatwaves and increase biodiversity. Installing more roof and vertical gardens in our buildings can provide habitats for birds, insects and plants. #WED2024 #WorldEnvironmentDay #UNEP #India #CSR #CSRINDIA #SDGs #climatechange #environment #climateaction Trinity Care Foundation

Retrofitting is the need ! Small steps make the most difference.
Climate Adaptation can take many forms, of which frugal innovation is one of the most effective. In addition to easy scaling, such innovations are rooted in their contexts and developed by the end-users themselves. In response to New Delhi’s searing heat, cool roofs were prototyped and retrofitted in Vivekanand Camp. With an emphasis on local, easy-to-use, and recycled materials, three prototypes were developed. Of the three, one model resulted in a 12.7º C reduction in temperature. Given that indoor temperatures can be as much as 7ºC higher than the outdoors, interventions such as this can be hugely beneficial to physical and mental health. HAPPENING TODAY How hot is too hot? What’s the human tolerance level for heat?🔥 In a warming world, urbanisation has a profound impact on heat. Poorly planned, heat-trapping infrastructure, along with dwindling natural spaces, are turning up temperatures in Indian cities and triggering high health risks for people. What is the way forward? Join our webinar to hear CSE’s sustainable habitat experts who have spearheaded a nine-city heat mapping study⬇️ https://lnkd.in/gaara-Za #heat #cities #city #infrastructure #warming #urbanplanning #climatechange #sustainability #planning #construction #urbanheatislandeffect #urbanheatisland Rajneesh Sareen Snigdha D. THE WHY ? We started SIV Impact with a singular focus on serving communities at the frontier of climate change impact and helping them become climate resilient. India and developing countries face severe water stress and extreme heat, significantly affecting several communities. According to the World Resources Institute, 54% of India faces high to extremely high water stress, affecting nearly 600 million people. My community is facing the extreme impact of climate change; so this is personal. Biodiversity loss aggravates these issues, undermining agricultural productivity and water security and impacting livelihoods. Our mission is to partner with businesses and governments to drive biodiversity conservation and climate resilience, creating lasting impact in communities through ecosystem restoration, climate-resilient practices, and community engagement. Join us at SIV Impact Inc! #SIVImpact #Biodiversity #ClimateResilience #Sustainability #WaterStress #CommunityEngagement #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #India #EnvironmentalImpact #SustainabilityGoals #ClimateChange

We all celebrated "World Environment Day" on 5th of June 🌏 💚 This year's theme focused on land restoration, desertification and drought resilience under the slogan “Our land. Our future". We are #GenerationRestoration. 💚 Climate change is the biggest threat and the key driver for land degradation, drought and desertification. I am sure, we all are drastically impacted by rising temperatures. Some relatable stark facts : ☀ The peak electricity demand, largely driven by cooling needs, has hit about 250 gigawatts, mostly generated from coal, thus worsening climate impacts ☀ As per Consumer Electronics and Appliances Manufacturers Association (CEAMA), India recorded annual sale of around 14 million units of room air-conditioners in May ( a rise of 30 to 40 per cent in volume growth in summers alone). However, their widespread use expels heat exhaust outdoors, worsening the environmental crisis. How can you make a difference: 💚 Adopt Sustainable Practices: Reduce, reuse, and recycle to minimize waste. Opt for sustainable products and reduce your carbon footprint by conserving energy and using renewable sources. 💚 Support Restoration Efforts: Participate in local clean-up drives, tree planting events, and other initiatives aimed at restoring natural habitats. 💚 Advocate for Change: Use your voice to advocate for policies and practices that protect the environment. Support businesses and leaders committed to sustainability. 💚 Educate and Inspire: Share information and resources about environmental protection with your network. Inspire others to take action by showcasing your own sustainable practices and achievements. Let's be the change, we want to see... #sustainability #environmentday #WorldEnvironmentDay #Sustainability #climaterisk #RestoreOurEarth #EcoFriendly #ClimateAction

On the occasion of World Environment Day being celebrated with the theme- "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience" one might ponder upon the question - Well, how does land restoration contribute to biodiversity and climate action? Land restoration enhances biodiversity by rehabilitating ecosystems, allowing flora and fauna to thrive. It also combats climate change by improving soil health, which increases carbon sequestration, reducing greenhouse gases. These actions support sustainable livelihoods and climate stability.
