How do you generate an innovation pipeline for 4 global business units that is optimized for growth? What are the most important data points, or even the most important data point, to give people the confidence to go away and act? And who needs to be involved and buy into the plan? These are some of the questions that The Coca-Cola Company’s Global Director of Human Insights, Billy Fletcher, wrestled with when developing brand-new coffee innovations across 4 key markets: US, UK, Japan, and China. Armed with Upsiide as their gate zero innovation testing protocol at Coca-Cola, Billy and crew headed to Tokyo for a 3-day workshop. Research, marketing, R&D, SRA, and even finance stakeholders from each market were in attendance. They sense-checked existing ideas, developed a few dozen more ideas, and ran overnight research in all 4 markets to understand which of their ideas were most likely to succeed in-market. The results? A $1 million dollar bar chart. Coca-Cola was able to generate 7 ideas that outperformed their existing benchmark in all 4 regions. Upsiide didn't just facilitate decision-making; it mirrored regional preferences, ensuring the teams could head back to their headquarters with the highest potential ideas for product innovation. As Billy told us, “…everyone’s mind was literally blown.
