No matter who will win the US elections, Europe needs to get its act together and strengthen its resilience. Given the rising geopolitical tensions, we have to speed up significantly. Climate tech, which is the foundation of today's and tomorrow's leading industries, is of extraordinary importance here. We can't let others lead the way when it comes to batteries and energy, raw materials and supply chains, food and agriculture, construction, industry and transportation. Europe leads in climate tech R&D and patents, and we have most climate tech startups. "Europe First". Not the individual countries in the EU or the EU, but regionally. So no, I don't think separatism (Brexit, DExit, HUxit, etc.) are good ideas, quite contrary). But we have to be able to manage without outside "support" or reliance. #europeanimpactinvesting #sdgfundinggap #europefirst And NO, I do NOT say "Europe alone". If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go TOGETHER (African proverb). Friends are what we need. And in a globalized world, friends can be anywhere. Back to William Butler Yeats. But that does not mean, that we should be dependent or have a low self-esteem. Again: Why is Skype (an EU-invention) now Microsoft? Or why do we rely on the Big 5 (6?) so much and have no own answers? And why doesn't Europe take example from U.S. or China in #grassrootinvestment ? All investments I see either meet #fartoolittlefartoolate (an António Guterres hashtag) or #feedthedinosaurs (like in Germany, revitalize combustion engines, fossil use and plastics). Once leaders in microcomputing, we have to buy into an Intel-factory and can't develop "our own chip industry? We must buy medics from India and China after we've "outsourced" at all cost? #shortsightmanagement. And yes, investors are well advised to start investing #industrialscale and #longterm - a house is paid off in average in 20 years. You pay for university and pay back your credits often over the same period of time. But a startup has to pay off in a year or two with golden ROI? Back to my own claim: To find a unicorn, you have to leave the beaten path. Addon: And have patience. (#unicorninvestment) That said: I do NOT believe in any company or startup having no (reasonable) cash-even plans within a predictable time frame. Or any dinosaur in demand for subsidies.
