Thrilled to share my entry for the StaSIO Competition! This analysis was carried out during the EECOM (Communications for Energy Efficiency Business) course as part of my M.Tech in Building Energy Performance at CEPT University. My analysis is focused on a G+2 building situated in a composite climate, how the building's massing and orientation influence Total heat gains. By understanding these factors, Decisions on optimal placement of buildings in Site during the early design stages can be taken. This approach not only enhances energy efficiency but also leads to significant cost savings over the building's lifespan. The insights gained from this investigation are crucial for Architects and Designers aiming to create energy-efficient buildings. Last month (June 17-19), our partner Centre for Renewable Energy Sources and Saving (CRES) participated in the 5th Symposium on Circular Economy and Sustainability in 🇬🇷Chania. This conference aims to bridge the gap between engineering, management and economic knowledge, supporting the advancement of #circular and #sustainability principles. When deciding on the energy planning of districts, it is often unclear what energy supply options are available and how different technology options influence the outcomes, including demand reduction through energy renovation. 💻 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁? Using Sympheny, a new planning and optimization software, our research partner ZHAW IFM Institut für Facility Management (IFM) has analyzed a district in Dinhard, Switzerland. Four different scenarios were developed, focusing on annual life cycle costs (LCC) and CO2 emissions. A little pinch me moment! I was thrilled to present my thesis research at the recent IMechE events, “H2: ICE – The Engine of the Future?” and “EV Batteries: Electrified Vehicle Engineering.” These conferences offered an amazing insight on how leading experts are collaborating and having the difficult discussions to try and achieve a more sustainable future. 🌍 My work focuses on tackling one of the critical sectors for decarbonisation: power generation. Specifically, exploring the conversion of LPG-powered generators to operate on a hydrogen-ammonia fuel blend. This innovative approach aims to make power generation cleaner and more sustainable by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, leveraging existing machinery, and ultimately contributing to global net-zero goals. A huge thank you to Chloe Sarson & Alissa Hyde from the IMechE Events and Training for the opportunity to share my findings and for fostering a space for collaboration and innovation.
