Do you ever find yourself getting caught up in your own thoughts and emotions? It's a common experience, but one that can be challenging to manage. The core skill of defusion from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) can be incredibly helpful in these situations. Defusion involves recognizing our thoughts and feelings as just mental events, rather than getting entangled with them. Through regular practice, we can cultivate the ability to step back and observe our inner experiences with a sense of distance and curiosity. This can provide a valuable shift in perspective, allowing us to respond more flexibly and effectively, rather than getting caught up in unhelpful patterns. If you're struggling to navigate challenging thoughts and emotions, let's explore the practice of defusion together. #MentalHealthMatters #ACTTherapy #EmotionalWellbeing #therapy #psychotherapy #therapyworks #mentalhealth #practicemakesperfect #thoughts #emotions

Let’s talk about the other side of therapy – the anxious side. Seeking help is easier said than done, and it’s natural to feel scared. 🌿 Change is inherently challenging, and there is a sense of safety in familiarity and routine, even when those patterns are unhealthy. Discussing thoughts, beliefs, and memories can be unsettling, but embracing change can lead to a healthier, more fulfilling life. 🌟 Therapy helps us check our unhealthy patterns, understand our struggles, and develop better coping mechanisms. Trust the process, believe in yourself, and remember you are stronger than you think. 💪 A little discomfort now can pave the way to a healthier, more fulfilling life tomorrow. *Not trying to impose the idea that everyone should go for therapy* #therapy #mentalhealth #psychologist #counselling #psychotherapy

When we’re less critical of our perceived flaws, it’s easier to take things in stride. We can acknowledge our mistakes and think constructively about how to work on them. Feeling ashamed, embarrassed, or even a little “stupid” at times is normal, but it’s important to cut ourselves some slack and strive to do better next time. We don’t have to be perfect. We can feel how we feel and don’t need to constantly “stay positive” or “believe in ourselves.” The path to feeling good about ourselves starts with being okay with ourselves. This shift in attitude makes a huge difference. We become less worried about how we look or come across and how everyone else sees us. By being less concerned with trying to feel a certain way, we can engage with the world as we are, leading to other rewards and a more fulfilling life. At the Flatiron Center for Psychotherapy, we help you embrace self-compassion and engage with the world authentically. Reach out today to start your journey towards a healthier self-perception. #FlatironCenter #Psychotherapy #SelfCompassion #MentalHealth #AuthenticLiving #SelfAcceptance https://lnkd.in/dq6ZXhbu

𝐖𝐇𝐘 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃𝐍'𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐒𝐄𝐄𝐊 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐀𝐏𝐘? 1. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁: Therapy is a dedicated process. A person has to put efforts along with their therapist. The therapist works closely with the person to help them realize their best potential, overcome challenges, and deal with their negative thoughts. 2. 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀: Therapy can be horrifying. If you're someone who has obsessive and re-current thoughts about dying if you touch something, and repeatedly wash your hands because of that, a therapist will tap into those thoughts and make you tackle them, which can be nothing short of a nightmare for you. 3. 𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴: In therapy sessions, you have to talk and deal with your deepest and most painful memories. Some of which are so repressed that you do not want to encounter them, firsthand. You might have a breakdown, ponder upon some questions, and have to keep a tissue box handy. A therapist will try their best to help you resolve those repressed conflicts and have a fulfilling life. 4. 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲: Sometimes we feel comfortable and homely with the problems we have. Surely, they don't take us out of our comfort zone. Doesn't make us ask "What's the worst that can happen?" "What is going to happen if I decide to come out of this relationship?" "What will happen if I quit this job?" "What will happen if I don't get drunk today?" In therapy, you will be made to ask such difficult questions, and take more informed and wiser decisions. Whether you're stressed, having relationship conflicts, dealing with addiction, having difficulty concentrating for your upcoming exams or are scared to appear for the exam, therapy can help. So, these were the reasons why you shouldn't seek therapy. But, these are the 𝒎𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒐𝒓𝒕𝒂𝒏𝒕 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒚 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒕 𝒔𝒆𝒆𝒌 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒚. Getting therapy is not a sign of being mentally unsound. Rather, it is a sign that you are making an effort towards living a more enriching life. Trust me, 𝑻𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒚 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒘𝒐𝒓𝒌 𝒘𝒐𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖.
