Ever heard of Sean Shannon? He's a Guinness World Record holder for the fastest talker. He recited Shakespeare's 'To be or not to be' in under 24 seconds, speaking at a rapid rate of 655 words per minute. Probably a tad too quick for your average sales demo. A month back I posted about me speaking way too fast (a flaw my name suggests I might have) in my sales demos, especially considering that many of my prospects do not speak English as their native language. I set a target to get under 160 words per minute. I failed (just), but am on the right pathway. It's super important for reps to keep on top of data like this, along with other voice based insights like talk/listen ratio & longest monologues. Many will be shocked by their data. Meanwhile, Meetric now has a new speedster breaking records at the top of the leaderboard, Mr Örnborg. Where do you rank amongst your team for the unwanted title of fastest talker?

https://lnkd.in/gE-rG9pd Does the money we give to good causes help its recipients? If Christian organizations hurt the people they set out to help, would we ever find out? I had the privilege of speaking at the Christians for Impact 2024 conference about how global Christian nonprofits evaluate their impact! (Obvious disclaimer that these views, and especially my religious views, are my own and not those of my employer! The majority of the work described in the talk happened last fall, before I started my new job, and the bit I’ve contributed since I did on my own time.) Quick summary of what we’ve learned: 1) Evaluation practices are improving across the Christian nonprofit sector. 2) Evaluation practices vary *significantly* across organizations. 3) Christian groups provide very little transparency regarding their impact (or potential harms they’ve caused) to either donors or recipients. 4) Christian nonprofits commonly use unreliable methods to understand whether their work is helping or harming recipients. 5) Monitoring and evaluation departments (tasked with evaluating whether programs are working) are generally under-resourced. See the talk for more detail, but a key point is that academics with statistical expertise and (generally overworked) monitoring and evaluation (M&E) professionals don’t have opportunities to learn enough from one another. So I’d like to bring more attention to Effective Altruism for Christian’s (EACH’s) free M&E advice program — if you’re an M&E professional who’d like advice, feedback on an approach, or just someone to bounce ideas off of, you can sign up here for a free hourlong call with an academic with expertise on your particular statistics or evaluation question: https://lnkd.in/gzkKmPtb Please pass the advice link along to anyone you know in the Christian nonprofit space who might be interested!!

It was so much fun to present with Antonio F. Urdaneta yesterday on the intersection of employment and immigration law. Moral of the story: make sure you have workplace policies in place and are aware of your responsibilities as an employer of foreign nationals. #workincanada #workpermit #employeerights #humanresources #workersrights #canadaimmigration #employercompliance

If you ever wanted to exercise your creativity and innovation muscles, you have to check out challenge.gov. From space exploration to healthcare to clean energy, this is where the government posts all of its most challenging problems! The great thing about these challenges is that they provide one of the places on the planet where you can try and fail with no consequences. But you might not fail... you might hold the answer that we need to solve a hard problem and make a real difference. Whether you are driven by curiosity, want to contribute, desire to make a name for yourself, want to learn something now, or you just want to try and win some cash, these challenges are designed for YOU! You can do them by yourself or form a team with friends. Become part of the movement of people that are done just sitting on the sidelines (or the couch) and want to get in the game. I personally think our NASA challenges are amazing, but there are also great challenges from DOE, HHS, CDC, NIH, DHS, NOAA, NGA, NIST, Bureau of Reclamation.

My first time at the Disney Data and Analytics Conference - what an incredible experience! So many takeaways, especially about how adaptation and thoughtful application of AI is improving outcomes across multiple industries. I gained a new respect for its benefits and challenges and the need for creating a set of guidelines to help manage its responsible use, especially in educational settings. I’ve always valued and championed using data to inform decision-making, but seeing how organizations like Disney innovate to leverage data for everything from improving customer experiences to leadership excellence to operational efficiency was exciting to see. Plus, I got to spend time with some brilliant and creative people—both from Disney and other organizations—who are pushing the boundaries of what AI and data analytics can achieve. At the same time, an underlying message that resonated for me was this: while technology drives efficiency and new possibilities, it still needs to be designed with empathy and understanding of human needs. Advancements in AI, robotics, or data analytics should enhance our lives rather than replace genuine connection and well-being. We need to keep people at the core so that institutions and organizations can harness technology to create solutions that are both innovative and meaningful. It was a reminder that using technology to simply check a box or make a process more efficient doesn’t foster trust or long-term value for those who are served by our organizations or those who dedicate themselves to making their organizations successful.
🎭 Curtain call! Thank you to all our attendees and volunteers for an amazing conference. See you at DDAC 2025!

Had the pleasure of attending Ohio Society of Association Professionals Annual Conference in Cinncinati and really enjoyed the networking, sessions and conversations. Thank you Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP) for making this possible. My key takeaways include: - find ways to make your team feel valued at work and incorporate play as a primary research tool - Geoff McLachlan - understanding the challenges of hybrid and remote work models allows the whole team to discover ways to problem solve, and cultivate a healthy work environment by encouraging ways to build psychological safety and resilience. - don’t be afraid to question the status quo - a willingness to tell your story doesn’t have to be selfish or narcissistic and you can have a great and powerful impact by relating to others through story telling - meeting new people is fun, don’t forget that! #professionaldevelopment #remote #work #attendee #osap
