How do you see yourself in 6 months? That's the equivalent of: 26 weeks... 182 days... 4,380 hours... If you're working a 9-5 job, That's already 1040 hours dedicated to others. With approximately 2548 hours spent on sleep and day-to-day tasks, you'll be left with 792 hours to spend wisely. That 792 hours? That's what I used to acquire my first 10 Co-Living units. Years ago, I was in the exact same place as you. Working a 9-5 job, under-compensated and drained. I didn't have the luxury to enjoy family time without worrying about deadlines. Stress ate me up which later affected my mood and relationship with my husband and my kids. Focusing on just surviving and paying bills, I almost lost the most important thing that my children needed - my presence, especially during their formative years. That's when I decided to dedicate my 792 hours to a simple goal: To get out of this rat race. After 6 months, I closed 10 units. Looking back, what if I just stayed on my job? What if I didn't even try to step out of my comfort? Then I wouldn't be the Jelene right now - I could be sitting on the couch, tired from the commute and stressed from work. This is not a special story that happens to a special person only, it's a proven guide that we teach our students, hear their stories here: https://lnkd.in/g5sUcDrr Remember, we are where we at right now is the result of the decisions we've made in the last years, months, weeks, and days that we've lived. Your decision right now is what your future self will depend on. 6 months from now, maybe you'll be up there with them. To make that happen, register here for free now: https://lnkd.in/gypnQXV7

Working hard led me to being paid 30k less than my peers. I had to learn the hard way that hard work alone isn’t enough in the corporate world. That goes against everything we’re taught growing up: • Get good grades in school • Go to college • Work hard And magically we’ll be successful. Except that’s not true. In believing in “working hard,” I put too much focus on the hours I was working, and not enough focus on what I was working on. I thought if I said yes to all the things, and worked long hours, I would be rewarded. Unfortunately, not true. What gets noticed is the impact of our work. I had to learn to sell the story of the impact of my work. And that took courage and data. But by asking the right questions and getting the right data, I proved that my work was having a more significant impact than others and merited a pay increase. I was able to double my income AND get my life back. • No more late nights and weekends. • No more volunteering for low-value side requests. • Hello lunch breaks and guilt-free vacations (and the money to pay for them). If you need help proving the impact of your work so that you can maximize your income without burning out, join me for my FREE masterclass on September 12th. Registration is in the comments.

A career pivot… to fakie. There’s a simple yet intimidating trick in skateboarding called a “pivot to fakie.” Learning the technique isn’t easy, and each transition has its own challenges. First comes the pivot—you balance one of the skateboard’s metal axles on the top edge of the ramp. Then—normally—you re-enter the ramp going forward. To take it to fakie, however, you re-enter the ramp backwards, going down the ramp the same way you came (a bit riskier). So I set out to up my pivot to fakie game on a ramp I hadn’t been bold enough to approach. To get the nerve, I told myself this would be a good way to commemorate my career “pivot to fakie.” The thing is, I started my professional career doing taxes in 2013, working alongside my grandfather at his small practice as a certified tax preparer. Since then, I studied and earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in accounting, became a CPA, and served hundreds of clients. But I wanted the chance to be more creative in my daily role. So I pivoted. I spent the last year doing marketing for an engineering firm. It gave me a lot of perspective working outside of my native industry. Most importantly, it gave me a license to be creative in a way I had never explored. Ultimately, it inspired a professional mind-shift, and I now have a better idea of what I want out of my career. Now I’m pivoting back to helping clients with their tax returns and accounting (truthfully, I never stopped). I’m plunging back into the tax world with my own firm, and I’m excited to share that journey with my network. Here’s to turning back (or to fakie)!

Last day in the office for 2024. Another year has passed and also marking a quarter century of me joining the rat race. 25 years—crazy, right? It feels like it’s gone by in the blink of an eye, but looking back, there’s a lot I’ve learned. If I could sum up what those years have taught me, here’s what I’d say: 1. Keep up with the lemons: Things change all the time. New tech, new bosses, new ways of doing things. The key is being able to adapt and not get stuck in the past. There are always 3 sides to every story. 2. Failure’s not the end: I’ve messed up plenty. But the big thing I’ve realized is that it’s not the mistake that matters—it’s what you do after. You learn, you bounce back, and you keep moving forward. When you meet a rock, roll with it! 3. People are everything: The work is important, but the people are even more important. The relationships you build along the way can teach you a lot and make all the difference. Of course, some stay and some move on. Might hurt a little, but it doesn’t matter. Life’s like that. 4. Take care of yourself: Work’s important, but so is your health. Burnout’s real, learn to take breaks, ask for help, and prioritize well-being. As a wise Jedi Master once said, “Be mindful of the future, but not at the expense of the present.” 5. Stay curious: There’s always something new to learn. Whether it’s a new skill, a different approach, or just something random. You are not a cat. Learning is a lifelong journey. 6. Don’t give up: Sometimes it’s just about pushing through, even when it feels tough. Perseverance has been a game-changer for me. Just keep going, one step at a time. When the going gets tough, the tough gets going. A toast to those who have helped me along the way and my best wishes to those where my 2-cents might have contributed a little to your growth. May the Force be with you All. So yeah, 25 years down, and I’m not sure what’s gonna come next. Let’s see where the next chapter takes me. Keep The Faith! Wishing Everyone a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year! #yearendthoughts #25years

This is the face of someone who's made a BIG life decision recently & is so at peace with it 🥹 A month ago, I told you I was taking a little time out. The reality is I never should have let it get to the point I'd got to before taking a break. I needed the time out more than I could ever explain. Lesson learnt: Never again. So what's the big decision? I'm stepping away from Let's NVST. This isn't a knee jerk decision by any means. I've been working on Let's NVST since April 2023. I've loved so many aspects of establishing Let's NVST that I'm certain business is my future, but ultimately, the property industry isn't where I want to be. I thought it was, but when I reflect, it's making a positive difference to people's lives that's my driver. And that's what I've found increasingly tough with Let's NVST. My driver has been to stop people losing money to bad people, rather than the love of the industry. I know that there is still very much a need for Let's NVST, but I also know I am not the person to lead it. Not in a million years did I think I'd be writing this in September 2024, but sometimes life has a funny way of showing us the path we're meant to be on. I've thought so much lately about my purpose (too much Simon Squibb!). I'm at a point in my life where it needs to be my driver. I feel like I know my next move in my heart, but I'm still working through how this looks in reality, while reminding myself I need to take the time to fully recover before going hell for leather. One element I'm fairly certain of: It will be run under a social enterprise model. Purpose & profit. ❤️
