In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. Last week, Alton’s New York office took part in our Pledge 1% volunteer day initiative, once again teaming up with West Side Campaign Against Hunger (WSCAH) in Manhattan to help alleviate hunger in the city. WSCAH’s crucial work ensures all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and support services. In support of the organization’s community-focused mission, the Alton team helped prepare 1,490 bags of fresh or shelf-stable food to serve more than 600 families in New York. Each year Alton supports Pledge 1% https://lnkd.in/eW_ANjH, where we not only donate 1% of our revenue, but also 1% of our time to charitable causes. Please join us in helping West Side Campaign Against Hunger with its impactful work by donating here: https://lnkd.in/d3eDAKJ #community #socialresponsibility #corporatecitizenship #givingback #WSCAH #Pledge1%

Wakefern Food Corp. has always been equal parts heart ❤️ and ambition. So, with the close of the successful 2024 Wakefern Showcase, we were proud to partner with the Community FoodBank of New Jersey and donate nearly four trucks of fresh foods and groceries from the Showcase supermarket displays. These donated items will help as many as 20,000 families in our region. Thanks to all the team members who volunteered to pack and load – and to the CFBNJ for their ongoing commitment and creativity in the fight against hunger.

As a continuation to my post from Monday where I shared about my involvement as a Board member for the School Garden Support Organization, I wanted to expand on my “why”. And why my purpose and passions are centered on supporting equitable learning, school gardens, sustainability, and representation. Today, the majority, ~70% of agricultural workers are foreign born migrants. They are the backbone of our food supply chain, yet often are not given basic human rights or access to the systems/programs we all take for granted. Often, they are the center of vitriolic language and unfair policies; Our farm workers do not receive the respect they deserve. I would like to see dignity and pride in farm work restored. I would like to see agriculture in all forms seen as a meaningful career path. An industry that is valued as significant and has high importance; And that we support through our education system. How can we honor our migrant workers, and the legacies of Caesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta? I think it starts by supporting organizations that teach youth the importance of gardens, farming, sustainability, and communities. It is then we can truly “Honor the hands that harvest your crops.” - Dolores Huerta #purpose #passion #advocacy #nationalfarmworkersawareness #sustainability #community #leadership https://lnkd.in/gccx4yyy
🌱 It's National Farm Worker Awareness Week! This week we honor the farm workers who are the backbone of our food supply and celebrate their invaluable contributions to our communities. 🍇 Regardless of the multitude of challenges farm workers face, such as climate change, immigration, lack of worker protections and pesticides, farm workers remain resilient and continue to work tirelessly to ensure that there’s food on our tables. 🔦 Stay tuned this week as we shine a spotlight on the challenges and issues impacting these essential workers and learn how you can help the workers who put food on our tables. 🤲🏽 This week, please consider making a donation to the UFW Foundation. Your donation goes towards programs and advocacy for farm workers, their communities and families. To donate, go to https://lnkd.in/gtzc7Bfm
