Tony McLoughlin, Managing Director, Planning Design Manufacturing and Operations, talks about Glenveagh’s ambitions to scale housing delivery at today’s National Construction Summit in a fireside chat with Carol Tallon and panel on ‘Voices of Irelands MMC Sector’. "Our scale is our strength – with NUA we’re the largest offsite manufacturer in Ireland with ambitions to grow more in the coming years. We're accelerating our manufacturing capability to deliver high quality, low carbon, energy efficient homes using modern methods of construction (MMC). It’s clear that to get MMC to work in Ireland, a standardised design lead approach is critical to maximise potential savings and efficiencies, which will ultimately make or break the success on MMC in the industry. We managed to more than double the production of standardised housing units in 2023. This trend is set to continue, with an estimated 70% of this year’s output being standardised units, and we anticipate even higher percentages in the years to come."

A great video of Rupert Daly and Barbara Lantschner working with Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre construction team to develop Passivhaus knowledge and experience. We are working for Built Environment - Smarter Transformation designing Scotland’s National Retrofit Centre, in Hamilton. BE-ST aims to showcase the potential of the built environment and the supply chain in Scotland. The retrofit project serves as a demonstrative tool, highlighting innovative materials and methods. John Gilbert Architects are working with Clark Contracts, Narro, Lùths Services, Brown + Wallace and CDM Scotland Ltd to deliver the National Retrofit Centre. This training helped the whole construction team to consider the quality required, consider the details designed and work together on sequencing and delivery.

What a great Construction Conference yesterday hosted by my colleague Michael Hiscock. Here's what I took away: 🔥 There are numerous detailed regulations relating to fire safety and this is now a really important issue for property investors, developers and occupiers that cannot be ignored. 🏫 Community spaces are really important to the built environment we live in and we need to consider the under utilisation of our public buildings such as schools. 🌲 Nature has capital value and places like Utrecht in the Netherlands have heavily invested in making their town centres attractive places that people want to visit using the natural environment. 🏘 SME builders are the lifeblood of the construction sector and should not be ignored. 🏡 Diverse housing makes people happy and no-one wants to live in towns and cities that all look the same. 👩 We all need to play a role in encouraging a more diverse construction industry and ensure that more women become leaders in the sector. 📜 The planning systems needs fixing (I think I knew this already!) Thank you to all the speakers and everyone who attended. Wright Hassall LLP
