Some takeaways from the presentation of Michael Salomon at #futureofenergy: Energy storage development status (Latin America and Africa): - In Africa, the number of operational projects remains small (350MW) but the pipeline is growing fast. - Central and Latin America are in a similar situation, but closer to mass adoption with almost 1 GW of operation ESS in Central and Latin America. Chile and Colombia are leading the way for massive deployment of storage capacity in the region. Source: Clean Horizon CHESS database Storage in emerging markets: right technical ideas, wrong technical ideas: - One of the main challenges for developing energy storage projects is to determine the right application, especially in geographies with no market signal - Development of storage in emerging markets cannot be a « copy paste » of models that have works in specific geographies, but needs to be tailored to each situation Why does it take so long in emerging markets ? - 3 typical cases for storage for emerging markets (shown in the slide below)
Definitely pleasant to meet old friend at #futureofenergy last week (looking at you Martin Baart). And glad that I could share with the audience that secondary reserve is often forgotten by system planners across Africa when modeling storage, on my panel with Marianna Sedefian, Rianne 't Hoen, Alexandre Lambolez and Mark Roesink.

Two things: Navigation data + Meeting in person 1) 🗺 We're often asked about the Oshen micro-vessels ability to navigate. As we move into a period of frequent testing, we'll get more and more data to show you on navigation ability, and below is a short clip from the 100km mission. The micro-vessel tacks against the wind to reach a target waypoint, then follows a straight path direct to a distant waypoint, reaching it with precision. If you'd like to hear about the MetOcean and PAM data we can collect on missions like this, please get in touch! 2) 🌊 I'm attending Global Offshore Wind for the first time next week. If you'd like to discuss biodiversity monitoring, our current project with DEFRA focusing on cetaceans, or our work on MetOcean data - please get in touch! Or, if you know someone that I should try to meet while I'm there, any introductions are hugely appreciated. #RUKGOW24 #OffshoreWind

SoftServe and Hatem Nasr PhD are helping gas & electric utilities and oil & gas adopt the cutting-edge science of #geospatialanalytics to avoid costly problems over vast infrastructure. Satelytics produces actionable alerts on threats to your infrastructure. SoftServe then helps utilities, pipeline operators, and oil & gas harness that data by automating the workflow to enable field teams to act quickly on the information. It's a great one-two punch. Talk to us or Hatem to learn more about how you can harness these capabilities not only for methane measurement, but for 40+ other infrastructure-related challenges your company faces. One set of data, many solutions!
Geospatial Analytics is critical for understanding and analyzing methane and GHG emissions. Softserve is working with our partner Satelytics to transform raw satellite data into valuable and meaningful analytics of GHG emissions. Technology Thursday - Using satellites 🛰 to detect methane emissions There are several satellites 🛰 that track worldwide methane emissions: 🛰 GHGSAT - manages a constellation of satellites with high-resolution remote-sensing of greenhouse gas from space providing emissions monitoring optimized for methane. It provides actionable data to accelerate decarbonization 🛰 MethaneSAT - launched by the Environmental Defense Fund, this satellite will locate and quantify methane emissions from oil and gas operations worldwide. Because of its high global warmer potential, reducing methane emissions provides a quick short-term solution to preventing global temperature rises in the next decade. Data from these satellites provide companies and countries an opportunity to manage and reduce their emissions. #climateaction #ghgemissions #methane

Offshore Wind Turbine structures are unique (largest machines i.e. 100+tonnes turning at 10RPM! & arguably smartest). There are also different from similar structures: (a) Onshore Wind Turbine structure: Only Wind Action and no wave action. (b) Offshore bottom fixed Oil & Gas structure: They are dynamically less sensitive, short height, massive and most of them are supported on many small diameter long piles. In contrast, OWT structures are sensitive to dynamics (example 1P, 3P and wave) and most of them are supported on one large diameter monopile. Accounting for the combined action of (wave + wind) for the dynamically sensitive structure in a robust way was necessary for catastrophe modelling of Offshore wind turbine structures. We had an enjoyable colloboration with DHI while developing our Renew Risk model for our Clients.
We are thrilled to highlight our partnership with DHI - renowned experts in water environments, metocean engineering and modelling. DHI's comprehensive wave data is crucial in our catastrophe risk modelling for offshore wind farms, consistently earning praise for its quality and precision from our clients. A heartfelt thank you to Jacob Berg, Pedro Santos, Yann Darchen, and the entire team for their outstanding support this past year as we have developed our models. At Renew Risk, innovation in science drives us forward, and with partners like DHI, we continue to advance our vision. Here's to continued teamwork and innovation! #offshorewind #geosciences #EGU2024 #catastropherisk #renewableenergy #catastrophemodels #stresstesting #offshorewind #natcatmodelling #CatastropheRiskModelling
