Here’s a quick rundown of the key changes from Q3 to Q4: 🔹 Enhanced forecasting model: Our model now better captures day-ahead market volatility and accounts for the impact of flexibility. 🔹 Updated scenarios for load and commodity prices: We’ve adjusted short-term load and long-term commodity prices to reflect the latest trends and uncertainty in carbon tax prices. 🔹 BESS Cannibalization Considered: The cannibalization impact for BESS has been incorporated into mFRR energy prices. 🔹 BESS COD update: The commissioning date for BESS projects has been revised to January 2027, impacting project IRRs slightly. 🔹 TURPE 7 Grid Fees: We've integrated the latest TURPE 7 grid tariffs into our models, reflecting updated grid cost structures. These updates allow us to deliver more accurate and reliable price forecasts to better support your strategic decision-making. 🇩🇪 "The volume of utility-scale batteries is on track to grow six-fold in Germany by the end of the decade. By last year, projects could earn up to twice the revenue they needed to break even, it estimates. And this year those potential revenues only improved further thanks to growing within-day spreads in power markets struggling to cope with ever-steeper changes in solar and wind volumes." Corentin Baschet shared these insights at the recent Solarplaza Summit Germany in Cologne. How many GW of storage is to be expected in Germany by 2030? 💡 For context, there is currently 1.5 GW of utility-scale storage connected to the grid in Germany as of November 2024, and as much as 160 GW of storage that have asked for a grid connection (first link in the comment). At Solarplaza Summit Storage Germany, Corentin Baschet raised the question on how many GW of storage will be operational in Germany by 2030. Clean Horizon central scenario shows that 9 GW of utility-scale storage are expected to be connected to the grid in 2030 in Germany. Philipp Hesel, from Aurora Energy Research offered a broader range, estimating between 6 GW and 15 GW. Interestingly, many developers are optimistic, predicting a total of 15 GW, with some even suggesting a potential of 40 GW!
