Yesterday I've listened attentively this Podcast from #SpaceWatchTV YouTube site. I've shared before an #ESA (European Space Agency - ESA) solar power in space project beamed into an Earth Power Station through microwave beams speciallized for the task. But quickly I've also noticed that there is a lot of skepticism and pessimism about this Energy source possibility for humanity to reach the goals of energy sustainability and net zero. Some folks are not yet convinced and are still betting and investing on these types of projects... On top of this you will also listen that the company featured - Space Solar - is not only involved in Solar Energy from Space, but is also developing technology for Satellites Debris and Space Debris removal - this time this type of solution is consensual as to its viability and utility. Take a breath and listen the 1h:20 minutes of the cast, It's worth your time. Two groups have announced plans or launched new satellites in recent months that can map fugitive landfill gas. The technology is maturing at a critical time for emissions mitigation, as regulators consider tightening restrictions on landfills and deadlines loom for global methane reduction commitments. Last month, GHGSat announced plans to launch nine satellites by the end of 2026, nearly doubling its existing fleet of 12. Carbon Mapper announced the launch of its Tanager-1 satellite in August, and it began reporting data from the satellite in November. 📏 🌳 Why Field Measurements Still Matter in the Age of Satellites Satellites are revolutionizing how we monitor forests and assess biomass, but relying solely on satellite data has its limits. While these tools provide vast, timely information, field measurements remain crucial to avoid wrong conclusions. 🛰️ Satellites + 📏 Field Data = The Perfect Match! Here's why: • Training and calibration: Satellite-based methods need field data to train models and ensure accurate predictions. • Uncertainty assessment: Regulatory and financial reporting relies on uncertainty estimates that only field data can provide. While waiting for our Colombian field crews to finish their field work in the jungle, Jukka Miettinen dives deep into how FCM is combining satellite and field data. ln 2023, Orb partnered with the Orange County Water District (California) and the US Government to embark on a groundbreaking project. Our collective goal? ➡️ To elevate the standards of water reuse applications. The mission was a resounding success. Our technology demonstrated its exceptional capability by reliably detecting up to a 4-log removal efficiency across RO membranes. This level of precision is twice the performance of the current regulatory standard set by TOC analysers. The implications are monumental. Orb's real-time technology stands ready to revolutionize the industry. Treatment systems adhering to California's stringent 12-10-10 log removal rule could see their construction and lifetime operational costs slashed by an incredible 50%, alongside a commensurate reduction in energy use and emissions. The future of water treatment and reuse is here, it's sustainable, efficient, and Orb-driven. Join us on our mission for a better water future with Orb’s decentralized monitoring technology. #water #waterinnovation #microbiology #orbmonitor

IBM will use the lessons learned from the development of Prithvi 2.0 geospatial AI model with NASA and use them to create an open source model aimed at managing power infrastructure and sustainable energy called GridFM. The project, in collaboration with LF Energy and Hydro Quebec, looks to build a model capable of predicting power loads and renewable energy generation, track distribution and transmission of power, and simulate future power usage to help forecast pricing and demand. https://lnkd.in/gDDCybEt

How free earth observation data can support national forest inventories on biomass assessments.
🌍 Earth Observation to support Forest Inventories 🌱 Nations can enhance their forest inventories - without the hefty costs (!!) - using free Earth Observation (EO) data. Yet barely a handful of countries do so. ⛔ Access to high-quality EO datasets, computational power or platforms just aren't enough to make the cut... 🟢 Countries express needs for statistically defensible methodologies, open-source codes and robust, replicable approaches to support their policy-related forest carbon assessments. Reporting to #UNFCCC, for example, mandates a level of transparency and replicability that is critical. 🎯 Working, Mexico's Comisión Nacional Forestal (#CONAFOR), we have just published a geostatistical approach that merges a NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration #GEDI (and Landsat) and European Space Agency - ESA #CCI_Biomass product with Mexico’s NFI. This new approach not only improves forest carbon/biomass predictions, but does so in a way that’s flexible, transparent, and accounts for uncertainty – all key for effective policy. 🛰️ The study also underscores the importance of CEOS (Committee on Earth Observation Satellites) agencies working together to aid forest-and-policy needs of the nations of the world! We are upscaling with more country cases, working closely with the Global Forest Observations Initiative into the future. 🔗 Read more – https://lnkd.in/ejyif44D 🔗 Access code - https://lnkd.in/eMPk5N9i Feel like your country’s NFI could benefit?
