Every day at Intuitive, employees build leading-edge technology that empowers doctors to save lives. This is a place where our passion for innovation, our laser focus on patient care, and a culture of openness and inclusivity drive meaningful progress and personal growth. Managing Engineering Fellow Pink (aka Ian) McDowall has been contributing to Intuitive’s progress for 16 years—but it’s only recently that they’ve felt the full power of belonging here. A tragic event propelled Pink to change. As their boss was dying, Pink looked back on their life and realized: “I had to be my authentic self.” Part of their expression was changing from the masculine clothes they had always worn to the office to wearing skirts and more female-style clothes. “Dressing the way I do makes me feel whole, and that’s a really great feeling.” Pink also wanted to use their own experience to educate other employees about gender identity—encouraging questions and dialogue after they gave a presentation about their new fashion. “I wanted to make it clear to people that it was important to me, and afterward people told me I’d made them more comfortable having conversations about gender identities, particularly with their kids.” Pink shares their story with the hope that it will “help other people feel a little more confident about expressing themselves.” Join us in building an Intuitive where everyone can belong and flourish: https://lnkd.in/exCvRUJU #WeAreIntuitive

DEI 👥 It becomes HIT nowadays for companies to strengthen the importance and implementation of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusivity (DEI). Whether companies have really spent decent time to figure out what's the vision and mission and what's to accomplish before doing it, it would make a huge difference and reward from every aspect. At Copenhagen Offshore Partners, we are proud to advocate DEI as we do care. We are what we act. 😉 🙌 #DEI #Diversity #Equality #Inclusivity
When we talk about diversity, usually we are talking about skin color, race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and more. Factor or criteria we apply when conducting recruitment. However, while more and more organizations emphasizing the importance of diversity and applying it when hiring people, some organizations are quite lost for the spirit of diversity. In some cases, diversity is to promote company image, or just to follow the laws and regulations. Diversity, is far more than those obvious things we can observe. Such as how people look, what religion they believe, or where they were born. Diversity is about "thoughts" - different people have different thoughts, based on their diversities. If the organization cannot embrace "the diversity of thoughts", then any diversities they intend to have would be worthless, and the "inclusion" will become "assimilation". Be cautious when considering diversity, and be aware of where you are heading to. #hr #diversity #inclusion #coaching #recruitment

Colorism, or discrimination based on skin color, is a pervasive issue that often goes unnoticed in the workplace. But, as leaders, it's crucial that we create inclusive and equitable workplaces that support the success and well-being of *all* employees, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or skin color. This insightful article by my good friend Ruchika T. Malhotra explores women of color’s experiences with colorism in the workplace, bias, stereotypes, and the damaging pressure to conform to Eurocentric beauty standards. As always, she offers practical tips for identifying and dealing with colorism at work: #Colorism #Bias #Leadership #DEI #WorkplaceWellbeing Image alt-text: Nul

"The hardest part isn’t being bi. It’s being invisible." During #BisexualAwarenessWeek, we want to highlight an often unspoken truth: the unique challenges bisexual people face in the workplace. While strides have been made for #LGBTQIA+ representation, bisexuality remains largely invisible, especially for men. Why? Because bisexual men are often perceived to have feminine traits, leading to hiring bias and workplace discrimination, especially when they choose to reveal their true identity. This bias stems from harmful stereotypes that question their masculinity and decision-making, creating a significant barrier to equal opportunities. The painful reality is that bisexual people are forced into silence because they’re "half part of the norm." But is that really what workplaces need? Environments where employees feel they must hide a part of who they are to fit in? This pressure to remain invisible forces many bisexual people into a difficult position: sacrificing authenticity for acceptance. At Marching Sheep, we believe that inclusive workplaces must not only accept diversity but also embrace every identity in its entirety. #BisexualAwarenessWeek #EndHiringBias #LGBTQIA #InclusionMatters #MarchingSheep #MakeaDifference Sonica Aron (She/Her/Hers) Kunal S. It doesn’t happen too often to me that 24h later I am still blow ln away and positively charged by a presentation given. Axelle Ahanhanzo managed to do so during yesterday’s #IWD event here at PVH Corp. Perhaps it’s the fact that her points touched and resonate with me in so many different ways personally, finding my role in being a male ally, being a father to two daughters and shaping them to be strong and inclusive or simply trying to maneuver this space in doing better. Here is a few takeaways for me from this week: 💡Allyship isn’t a passive stance; it’s an ongoing commitment to understanding the experiences of marginalized groups and fostering a mindset of growth and improvement. What does being a male ally mean to me? 💡 It means engaging collaboratively with women, actively listening to their experiences, and learning how to best support them. It’s about being a co-conspirator, working together to challenge existing norms and combat inequity. 💡 True allyship rejects the notion of benevolent sexism. It’s about recognizing and valuing women’s competence and courage, rather than pigeonholing them into traditional gender roles. 💡 Male allies play a crucial role in amplifying women’s voices, ensuring they are recognized for their expertise and contributions. It’s about stepping back and giving space for women to shine. To combat performative allyship, it’s essential to identify and challenge practices that perpetuate systemic inequities. Allies have a responsibility to disrupt everyday biases, especially those present in male-dominated environments. #internationalwomensday2024

#sundaystorytelling Over the past several years I’ve strongly advocated for inclusion of deserving women in technology and other traditionally male-dominated fields. But a recent experience made me realize that I have not engaged as much in conversation about embracing capable men in traditionally female-dominated fields. The realization especially dawned on me when I had the opportunity to walk on the ramp at a mission-themed fashion show. To my surprise, my makeup artist was a man- the only man working in the room in that capacity that day. Initially, I didn’t know what to expect, As I had never had a male makeup artist before. However, very soon my uncertainty turned into appreciation and admiration- as I noticed some very positive attributes: - TOP OF HIS GAME: He had serious expertise with color palettes, brushes, sponges, applicators and other tools (some of which I didn’t know the existence of, until that day 😊) -AGILE LEARNER: He had not previously worked with anyone with brown skin- he didn’t have experience with my kind of skin tone but he figured it out quickly, through trial and error. - HIGH ENERGY: He was enthusiastic and buoyant, and his high energy rubbed off on me- that helped, since ramp walk is not in my comfort zone. -ROLE MODEL: He clearly enjoyed his work. Notwithstanding the ongoing challenges, he was supremely proud of representing his gender as a minority practitioner in his field. He was confident that he would overcome his barriers through a positive attitude and by putting in hours of extra effort to sharpen and refine his skills. I realized that his story had many similarities with the hundreds of stories that I have heard over the years, from women trying to get accepted in traditionally male dominated fields, such as technology and engineering. It reinforced my core belief that we need to rise above implicit or unconscious bias that often arises from lived experiences or personal preferences, and be open minded about embracing all genders in all industries. ☀️ Talent Knows No Gender: Skills and passion are not confined to any gender. Excellence comes from dedication and love for the craft. ☀️ Diversity Enriches: Embracing diversity in all forms—gender, background, experience—leads to richer and more innovative environments. ☀️ Breaking Barriers Benefits All: Challenging stereotypes and encouraging people to pursue their interests regardless of societal expectations fosters a more inclusive world. ☀️ Role Models Matter: Seeing individuals excel in non-traditional roles inspires others to follow their dreams, breaking down barriers for future generations. GENDER IS A CONTINUUM IT IS TIME WE RECOGNIZE ALL GENDER AS A RANGE RATHER THAN FIXED, BINARY CONCEPTS #breakbias #breakstereotypes #genderequality Picture: With the makeup artist, whose lively and energetic personality was as flamboyant as the kaleidoscope of his color palette.
