Among them, the importance of being human in the customer relationship. A few years back, Alan Poole, me and others produced some highly emotive video content, demonstrating to people at work how many great customer behaviours come naturally to us when we stop trying to be genuine and just behave genuinely. I think the quality of those videos stands the test of time; some of the behaviours featured could possibly be updated in the light of great research like this. I really don't mind peer benchmarks. But I find it funny when people make CERTAIN decisions off of peer data… And worry about how they compare to others. “Our click-through rate is lower than the niche average.” Yea, I get it. But that could mean anything. Thing is… There's data, and there's context around that data. Yea, based on the data, you're behind on certain metrics. But what's the context around that data? You may be in the same niche, but your brand isn't the same as others. There's difference in: - The type of products you sell. - The price point. - The positioning. And a bunch of other stuff that contextualizes the data. So without context…you really don't see the whole picture. #emailmarketing #ecommerce

Marketers’ actual first-party data collection isn’t meeting their goals, according to an April 2024 report from Forrester and Acoustic. Marketers need to improve collection of first-party data, either through their own tracking or through partnerships. -> 84% of marketers consider channel engagement data (via email, mobile, or website) important or critical, while 68% collect that data. -> 81% deem web and mobile data important or critical, while 63% collect that data. -> 75% consider real-time experience data important or critical while 47% collect that data. “First-party data can be aggregated and analyzed for broad trends, too,” said Mitchell-Wolf. Advertisers can use the data to understand where consumers are most receptive in their journey and which ad channels work best.
