It’s College Major Monday, so let’s talk about Disability Studies! 🙋 Disability Studies equips students to help those with disabilities. They learn how to create and advocate for policies in government, corporations, and nonprofit organizations with the goal of increasing inclusivity and creating a greater sense of community. Birkman areas of interest ➡️ Individuals who have a lot of Birkman GREEN (people, communication, relationships) with high motivation in Social Service will thrive in this career. What school has a good program? ➡️ Not many schools offer this degree. The University of Toledo was the first in the nation, and UCLA is the most recent school to offer the program. What are some potential careers? ➡️ Social work, HR, advocacy, camp or recreation director, policy creation, teacher. If you know a teen who might be interested in pursuing this major, send this post to them!

"I want to scream." I've had a few investor conversations recently where I can see them trying to connect their experience with education with the story behind ThriveIEP. ❓ Why are you talking about negotiation? ❓Parents only need to do this once, right? Conversations with other parents who haven't had to go through this experience are also filled with skepticism. The polite nod and then pivot when you share the tiniest bit of your experience working with the school. Reading the latest article in the Boston Globe Media's series of education, is simultaneously a punch in the gut and fuel to my fire. Parents, like those in this piece, face a system that feels intentionally complex, costly, often disempowering, and almost always lonely when it comes to advocating for their children’s educational rights. Families are sometimes silenced by confidentiality agreements or priced out of accessing the necessary resources, leaving them in isolation when they should be finding support. ThriveIEP is here to change that. We empower parents of children with learning differences and disabilities by equipping them with knowledge, support, and tools to confidently advocate for their kids. No one should feel alone in this journey.
