  • Congratulations to Family Support Network of NC's Barbara Leach on an incredible career being a fierce advocate for familes throughout North Carolina!

After 26 impactful years at #UNCSSW, Barbara Leach is retiring— but her mission to help others continues 🌟 Though her roles have varied from that of a faculty member, to a trainer, a lecturer, and now the special projects coordinator and family support specialist for Family Support Program, her purpose of helping children and families find their voice has never wavered. She doesn’t know exactly what will come next, but she plans to continue helping families and children in whatever way she can. “It’s just the end of a chapter, but the beginning of a new chapter that holds a lot of interesting, exciting things,” Leach said. “My work has been my passion, so I’ve been one of those people who’s been fortunate enough to do the work I both love and that has been my purpose in life. Join us in celebrating Barbara’s legacy and learn more about her impactful career ⬇️

  • FCRP's Director, Laura Phipps, was with CQI teams from Regions 1 and 2 in Lenoir last week to begin looking at strategies for addressing the most common challenges to meeting state outcomes. Holly McNeil, State CQI Lead, shared the results of the root cause analysis done by all seven regions during the first quarter. They worked in small groups to identify strategies for the upcoming work on the statewide Program Improvement Plan next year.

  • If you have ever worked in Permanency Planning, you know navigating IV-E funds can be complicated. That's where FCRP's Evan Friedel steps in. Evan has been working closely with Johnston County DSS to share his wealth of experience in IV-E and helping their staff make a complicated subject easy to understand. If you have any questions about IV-E training, reach out to Jonathan Rockoff at jrockoff@email.unc.edu.

  • There is a new issue of Fostering Perspectives available! The new issue examines how youth, resource parents, and professionals in the child welfare system utilize their lived experience to create meaninful and long lasting change. By hearing from individuals with diverse experiencies, we hope this issue provides insight into how these individuals are making a difference in North Carolina. This issue features articles about: • Strengthening relationships in the courtroom • How a social worker with lived experience in the child welfare system leverages her experiences • How to advocate for yourself as a kinship caregiver • How a family successfully fostered and adopted a teenager and taught her to advocate for herself • The LINKS program giving those with lived experience opportunities to create change • One child welfare social worker who also serves as a foster parent • North Carolina's Child Welfare Family Advisory Council and how they bring different voices to the table for important conversations • How the North Carolina Child and Family Services Plan focuses on lived experience • The upcoming Resource Parent Needs Assessment • And much more. This issue also features an article from Foster Family Alliance of North Carolina (our statewide resource parent association) about succeeding in school, an article from a SAYSO Inc. (Strong Able Youth Speaking Out) alum with lived experience, and profiles of children and youth seeking permanence through adoption. To read this issue, go to https://lnkd.in/eFmntzCR.
