How I Found My Calling: Advocating for Children with Learning Challenges Sometimes, the most fulfilling paths are the ones we don’t expect. When I first began my journey, I never anticipated becoming an advocate for children with learning challenges. But somewhere along the way, something shifted and I found a calling that would shape not just my career, but my life. My passion for special needs advocacy grew as I learned more about the challenges families face in understanding and supporting children with learning disabilities. From securing resources to finding the right educational support, these families navigate complex systems while providing emotional care and encouragement to their children. Witnessing their struggles and strengths inspired me to step in, offering a voice and guidance to make their journeys a little easier. Through Inclusive Families Circle, I aim to create accessible resources and share knowledge that empowers families, helping them feel less alone in the challenges they face. Every story I share, every piece of advice I offer, is crafted to resonate deeply and provide actionable support for parents, caregivers, and advocates alike. Early Care and Education (ECE) is more than just child’s play. It’s about “Future Readiness”, and our success begins in the earliest years! Did you know? 90% of a child's brain development happens from birth to five years old, so early childhood development is a critical driver of student success and economic mobility in later years. Investments in early care and education are the best investment we can make in our children, the workforce of the future. The success of our businesses and the prosperity of our families depends on it. But childcare is in crisis. A recent report, “The Business of Childcare and Early Learning in Orange County,” reveals that the industry is failing to provide quality early care and education to all children and families that need it, and it requires better funding and the support of business and community leaders. Early Care and Education (ECE) is more than just child’s play. ECE has widespread benefits, from improved child development to increased workforce participation and broader prosperity. However, underinvestment comes at a high societal cost. Nobel Prize-winning economist James Heckmann estimates a return on investment of over 13% when childcare is properly addressed. We're missing out on these dividends because we are not prioritizing ECE. This session will feature an interactive exercise in which participants will learn: -Basic information about disability statistics and disability rights. -How to map out the participant’s (and family caregiver’s or supporter’s) journey from different disability perspectives, for different stages of the clinical trial life cycle. -Where to find resources to support individual and organizational accessibility efforts.
