The Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE) hosted the “Insights from Space” event in Stockholm, Sweden. The event aimed to introduce Swedish government agencies and companies to the wealth of datasets and capabilities offered by Earth Observation (#EO) technologies. It featured a series of case studies and presentations showcasing how EO data can be utilized across various sectors. 🛰 🗺 Branimir Radun, Chief Technology Officer at Oikon, was invited as a speaker to present Oikon’s work in using EO data for environmental protection. His presentation, titled “Earth Observation Data in Various Ecosystems,” highlighted Oikon’s extensive experience in applying EO data to a wide range of environmental projects, including: - mapping marine and terrestrial habitats - land cover and land use analysis - smart agriculture solutions - forest ecosystem research - monitoring the effects of climate change - tracking invasive alien species. During his presentation, Radun emphasized the crucial role of EO data in providing a comprehensive understanding of the environment, enabling more informed decision-making. He noted that new processing tools and platforms, like the Copernicus Data Space Ecosystem (CDSE), are essential for gaining valuable insights about our world. 🌍 Exciting news for the Earth Observation Community in the Netherlands! Harm van de Wetering, Director of NSO, announced a stronger connection with the Group on Earth Observations (GEO). 💬 "Through the new GEO Netherlands ‘Hub’ (working title), we aim to boost collaboration and maximize the impact of Earth Observation (EO) in addressing global challenges. GEO promotes open access to EO data to tackle issues like climate change, food security, and disaster resilience." 🛰️ The Netherlands has contributed to GEO through initiatives like Geodata for Agriculture and Water (G4AW), WaPOR, TROPOMI, and ISRIC - World Soil Information SoilGrids. The new Hub will enable the country to further leverage EO data for sustainability and climate action, with support from the EU’s Copernicus program. Last week, NSO - Netherlands Space Office and the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat participated in the EuroGEO - European contribution to GEO Workshop 2024. EuroGEO aims to strengthen Europe’s role in Earth Observation by combining, coordinating, and cooperating in its efforts. 💡 Interested in joining? Enabling the generation and open access to ocean data is key to support ocean science. And yet, despite the multiplication of data from diverse sources, there are major data gaps to fill. The #OceanDecade provides the global ocean community with a unique opportunity to transform the way ocean data and information are produced, shared, managed, and used globally and equitably. The second webinar in the "Data for the UN Ocean Decade - A European focus" series, co-organised by the #OceanDecade Coordination Office for Ocean Data Sharing, Copernicus EU, EUMETSAT and EMODnet, experts from #OceanData will explore will how Earth observation, in situ, and modelled marine data can support the Ocean Decade to develop the science and solutions for a clean, healthy and resilient ocean. 🗓️ 10 October 🕒 14:30-16:30 (CEST) 💻 Online 🔗 For more info and registration: https://ow.ly/kz0Q50SVA5r
