Landscape Community Nature: Put Nature in the Hands of Experts, Not Developers: see 'Wild Justice' report below. Two key changes could revolutionise house building and direct living in nature: The Government Must Step In with a law enforced change of placemaking arrangements for all developments. Nature protection is too important to be left to non specialists. It’s time to make it a legal requirement to have independent landscape architects design, implement, and oversee all aspects of nature and landscape protection, enhancement and management in new developments. These professionals would ensure green spaces are not just an afterthought but a core part of every neighbourhood. This is urgent in view of the government's target of 1.5 million homes! End Car-Dominated Residential Roads: Residential access/space outside homes needs to be car/road-free. The endless present arrangement of endless driveways and vehicle access prioritize cars over people, destroying any sense of community or safety. Children would be able to play together outside, neighbours can gather, and nature can flourish—all without the threat of cars. Of course, this must include sufficient pathways and access for those with disabilities, so everyone can move freely and safely. Hubs for parking car pool vehicles, waste collection and delivery lockers should be set away from the residential streets. https://lnkd.in/dcF8UgU2
