Environmental Design, Inc.'s Northern Division recently completed a project at the The Beverly Country Club in Chicago, Illinois, which has been in operation since 1908. The project involved transplanting a 24" diameter Swamp White Oak tree, relocating it approximately a quarter-mile to replace a tree that had died on the 18th hole. The relocation was carefully executed to restore the integrity of the hole's play, and impressively, not a single blade of grass was harmed during the process. Thank you to Beverly for trusting us with their tree and their course! 😉 A Golfweek Magazine Top 100 golf course, Beverly has hosted numerous national events. Perhaps the truest reflection of the quality of a championship golf course is reflected in the champions it has produced. Beverly’s tournaments have produced some truly great champions. Environmental Design, Inc. Central Texas division working at the University of Texas, Austin campus moving this 30" diameter Live oak out of the way of construction of a new underground parking lot and business classrooms. The tree has an odd sized rootball due to underground utilities, a curb, and a retaining wall in the parking lot, so the tree will do much better in its new home with more room for the roots to grow. On Saturday, Environmental Design, Inc. hosted the Sante Fe Ten Memorial Foundation, Sante Fe High School students, PBK, and Edgeland Group to dedicate seedling #904, a decendent of the Survivor Tree at the 9/11 memorial in New York City. During the 9/11 Survivor tree’s rehabilitation, tree scientists at Bartlett Tree Experts collected seeds and propagated 450 descendants of the original tree. Today, the saplings average 5-6 feet in height, and now reside on the grounds of John Bowne Agricultural High School in Flushing, Queens, New York.  As part of the newly unveiled Survivor Tree Seedling Program, each year henceforth, saplings will be conveyed in September to communities affected by tragedy. As with the Survivor Tree, the saplings will provide an inspirational landmark for these communities, in the spirit of hope and resiliency. Students had an opportunity to tag trees at our farm that will grow along side of the survivor tree and will be planted at the Sante Fe Ten Memorial when completed in 2-3 years. On May 18, 2018, a school shooting occurred at Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe, Texas, in the Houston metropolitan area. Last week we planted six 5" diameter London Plane trees (Platanus × acerifolia) on the future Walmart corporate campus in Bentonville, Arkansas at their hotel and welcome center. We are managing a tree farm to deliver and install approximately 5000 trees to this site as the 5 different General Contractors give us a completed area to plant.
