Some time last year, I accidentally joined a local group at work called the "Green Team". I responded to an email, and then all of a sudden I was on the committee. Thank you Florence Van Dyke 🤣💚 What I have loved about being in New Zealand Trade and Enterprise's Wellington Green Team, is that I was very welcome, even though I clearly wasn't as green as some of my bike-riding, vegan-eating, composting-in-their-gardens workmates. But, that is entirely the point. Our Green Team was set up to learn, improve and, importantly, act locally. We all have the power to contribute positively. And so, it was SUCH A PLEASURE to co-host a hui last week alongside Jamee Taylor on the topic of Entrepreneurship and Sustainability. We were so lucky to have four amazing speakers: Adam McConnochie from Solid - Sustainable Oral Care, Sophie Brooker and Karina McCallum from Nonstop Solutions and NZTE board member and entrepreneurial champion Deb Shepherd. We had a provocative question to frame our conversation: 🌿🌱How can entrepreneurs strike a harmonious balance between ambition and sustainability?🌿🌱 Non Stop and Solid each shared how their businesses came to be. Both solving fundamental problems which they decided to address 👉🏽 Non Stop - reimagining large scale events and the waste they create, and getting stuck in sorting waste at the likes of Cuba Dupa and Around the Bays 👉🏽 Solid - teethcare, with fluoride, that doesn't send waste to landfill - because it is madness how much the big players currently contribute to landfill. Along with Deb, what was clear theme from all our speakers was that they all share a healthy dose of positivity and optimism. 🌱 💚 💡 With clients, the Non Stop team talk about how might the sustainability for an event be improved by just 1%? And then incrementally make improvements over time. Of course fixing EVERYTHING is IMPOSSIBLE. But improving by 1%? That’s doable. ✅ 💚
Big thanks to the New Zealand Trade and Enterprise Green team for inviting Adam along to share the Solid story at their latest hui 😊 It was great to hear from our friends Sophie and Karina at Nonstop Solutions and to meet NZTE board member Deb Shepherd. Companies like Solid get a lot from NZTE so it was nice to share with the team the kaupapa behind why we do what we do. Ngā mihi Megan and team!

Reflecting on the incredible efficiency and culture at Metrolina Greenhouses INC during the busiest time of year. Scott Robeson, Director of Continuous Improvement, shares his experience: "When I first started 4 years ago, the chaos was real and was almost something I could feel, at least as a new employee. With the help of Growmentum and our amazing team here at Metrolina, it is much more controlled and organized, which converts to less stressful days for all involved. Not to mention it's now measurable and actionable. We can now measure success and share best practices amongst teams performing the same task and even across our sites." Discover how technology and teamwork transform greenhouse operations in Marissa Marshall's latest article, "Finding Harmony in Chaos," linked here (https://lnkd.in/eCs6vu6Z). 🌿

Two weeks have passed since the B Corp Cork event on June 13th, and we've been reflecting on its success and impact. The event, co-hosted by Climeaction, Otonomee, Change by Degrees and B Lab Ireland, took place at The Dean Hotel and served as an exciting platform for innovation in the Irish business community. We are thankful to everyone who attended and helped make our vision of Raising the Collective Ambition in the Room a reality. The event was packed with insightful discussion and shared enthusiasm, highlighting the growing momentum of the B Corp movement in Ireland. James McManus spoke passionately about the workings, accomplishments, and significance of B Corps. Marcello Palazzi inspired us to step up our ambitions and engage with B Corps on a global scale. Numerous companies from various sectors, sizes, and stages of maturity shared their sustainability journeys, reinforcing our shared commitment to positive change. After two weeks of reflection, we can highlight a few key takeaways from the day: Companies are expanding their definition of stakeholders to include workers, customers, communities, and the environment. Being a certified B Corp is a marker of good business, showcasing awareness and solutions for societal and business challenges. It’s not enough to get your own house in order; responsible businesses make a difference by supporting others on their journey. Purpose-driven and sustainable businesses are setting themselves apart and succeeding commercially and financially. B Corps take pride in ensuring their products, practices, and profits do no harm and benefit all. The success of this event has set the stage for more exciting initiatives. Stay tuned for upcoming events, possibly later this year! Together, we are making strides toward a more sustainable future. #BCorp #BCorpCork #BusinessForGood #ResponsibleCorporates Cully & Sully Limited Gaia Talent OPTEL Group Merck Group Barry Group. Link only in Swedish. Summary in English of Aktuell Hållbarhet's article below: Asker’s Head of ESG, Sanna Norman, is nominated to the award Sweden's best sustainability manager, which is presented by Aktuell Hållbarhet, a leading sustainability magazine in the Nordics. Next to Sanna, three other finalists are also named: Atusa Reza, Sindi/Brunswick, Edvard Molitor, Port of Gothenburg and Erik Wottrich, Tele2. The winner will be announced in February. The candidates in the competition have been evaluated by a jury based on four criteria: Achieved Business Value, Achieved Sustainability Value, Leadership and Innovation and Creativity. This is the tenth year that Sweden's best sustainability manager is appointed. How do you view your role as a sustainability manager? "As a sustainability manager, I see my role as a catalyst for change. It's about driving behavioural changes with a strong belief that our work has a long-term positive impact on business, people, and the environment. I believe we must be the change we want to see in the world, especially since many people and the environment do not have the opportunity to influence important issues for the future of the earth and humanity." What results have you achieved in terms of sustainability benefits? "We have, as one of the first companies in our industry, mapped and calculated emissions across our entire value chain and set science-based targets. This has enabled us to come up with solutions to reduce emissions in the product groups that generate the highest emissions." Have you made any innovative sustainability initiatives you would like to highlight? "We have engaged in development projects with suppliers to offer solutions for partially reusable operation kits. We collaborate with suppliers to reduce their energy use and switch to non-fossil energy sources."
