There are few things in this world more British than a spot of Golf! On Saturday 30th November, our CEO Richard Corbett and CSCO Stefanie Aspiazu attended the V British Golf Cup 2024! Hosted by British Ecuadorian Chamber of Commerce the event was attended by both British and International companies operating in Ecuador. With the beautiful backdrop of the Guayaquil Country Club, the Baneco team met with a number of company owners who were interested to explore ways to utilise Baneco's locally sourced feedstock to produce sustainable products, materials and energy for their businesses. A special thank you to Ambassador Chris Campbell, Nick Armstrong and Cira Villacreses for hosting such a fantastic event! Our CEO, Richard Corbett, recently returned from a visit to Costa Rica, where he had the privilege of meeting with some of the world's leading banana producers who are driving innovation and sustainability in the industry. Here are 4 reasons why Costa Rica is a global leader in banana production: 1️⃣ Sustainability Champions: Costa Rica’s banana industry is a pioneer in sustainability, with over 85% of exports certified by the Rainforest Alliance. This ensures that environmental protection, biodiversity conservation, and fair labour practices are central to operations, setting a global standard for sustainable agriculture. 2️⃣ Global Impact: Costa Rica is the third-largest banana exporter in the world, shipping nearly 2 million tonnes annually, valued at over $1 billion USD. Its bananas reach markets across Europe and North America, providing high-quality produce that meets rigorous international standards. 3️⃣ Economic Backbone: The banana sector accounts for 8% of Costa Rica’s total export revenue and provides direct employment to over 40,000 people, predominantly in rural areas like Limón. This industry is a cornerstone of the country’s economy and plays a vital role in supporting local communities. 4️⃣ Innovation in Agriculture: Costa Rica is a leader in integrating cutting-edge agricultural practices, such as precision farming and natural pest control methods. These innovations have allowed the country to achieve a yield of up to 50 tonnes of bananas per hectare, one of the highest globally, while minimising environmental impact. Richard’s visit highlighted the importance of partnerships with key players to drive sustainability and innovation in the agricultural sector. At Baneco, we are excited about the opportunities ahead as we continue to collaborate with global leaders in the development of sustainable farming practices, renewable energy and new eco-friendly materials from banana agricultural waste. 🌍 #Sustainability #Bananas #CostaRica #Agriculture #Innovation #Leadership

  • Introducing Baneco’s New Strapline: "Materially Different" At Baneco, we believe in creating meaningful impact - not just a little change. That’s why we’re excited to announce our new strapline, Materially Different, a reflection of our vision to unlock the hidden value in agricultural waste and drive innovation in materials, energy and more. We’re tackling some of the most pressing social and environmental challenges through innovative commercial solutions: ✨ Cleaner By repurposing banana agri-waste, we reduce harmful methane emissions and replace single-use plastics with sustainable alternatives. Our products naturally decompose, cutting pollution and the health risks from microplastics. 💚 Healthier We’re promoting a healthier planet and future by creating eco-friendly alternatives to traditional materials (such as plastics) and non-renewable energy sources - thus reducing greenhouse gases and protecting ecosystems. 🤝 Fairer We support farmers by creating a steady, reliable income stream through the purchase of banana waste. This model helps break the cycle of poverty and gives farmers more stability beyond unpredictable crop yields. At Baneco, we’re not just another company - we're Materially Different. We’re transforming waste into value, making a real difference for people and the planet. 🌿 Please join us on this journey as we grow. Together we can make a difference, a material difference. #Sustainability #Innovation #CircularEconomy #BananaWaste #Impact

Climate Week NYC: Day 3 Digest by Richard Edwards Another hectic and fascinating day as Baneco pounded the streets of Gotham meeting the great and good. The day started strong with a TTI sponsored event, packed with high quality entrepreneurs, investors, industry bodies etc etc. Just some to mention: David Sternlicht, Allison Voss (WEF), Erika Basham (Microsoft CIF), Jeanne Sun, Will Beilharz. The challenge adressed by the session was how to get capital flowing towards nature (a recurring theme of the week). From there, via a drop-in to yet another Biochar event (great to bump into Oliver Rieche from Balance), it was off to ReAssembly. One of the bigger events of the week, a full day event with hundreds in attendance. The challenges faced by two industries in seeking to be kinder to the planet emerged, fashion and flying. LVMH talked candidly to the fashion challenge while Delta (amongst others) tackled the aviation question. It was fascinating to hear that 1000km range EP's (Electric Planes) are very nearly with us. Also, for Baneco, super interesting to hear that the airline industry is desperate for more Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). we can help with that :-) Great to hear from/meet Rohan Patel, Sangita Sharma, Daniel Rosen Jacobson Always fun to run into fellow banana entrepreneurs, shout out to Amanda Parkes And finally, more new words and phrases for the lexicon acquired today: ecopreneurs, 'patient' capital, goal investing vs alpha, 'no waste in nature' (amen). One more day to go. More of the same please!

NYC Climate Week: Day 2 Digest by Richard Edwards Another day of darting all over Manhattan for Baneco. There is a LOT of CDR/Biochar action here this week. It’s clear that buyers are more comfortable with ‘hard’ removal credits than they are with avoidance. It’s also clear that the co-benefits ‘story’ is crucial in attracting the major buyers. The projects they invest in must align closely to their own values. The halo effect is strong, for better or worse. One of the best things about NYC is the ability to pull up a bar seat, order a beer and some food and find yourself next to interesting people. Last night I turned to my right and there began a fascinating two hours with someone (very) senior at BlackRock. And, yes, he got the Baneco pitch 💪 Humorous moment of the day - Baneco found itself inside a VERY secure event by accident as UN Assembly and Climate Week collided. All it took was a flash of a (wrong) digital ticket to Secret Service and I was in. Slight problem - it wasn’t the event I was meant to be at. But good to know that security is watertight in NYC this busy week 👀 Onwards to Day 3. And an even busier schedule! Vamos Baneco 💪 #Baneco #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Innovation #ClimateWeek #NYC #ClimateFinance #CDR #EnergyTransition Richard Edwards
