The new TECA was designed to provide a range of flexible spaces comprising a multi-purpose arena that provides flexibility to host a large range of exhibition, entertainment and sporting events, a multipurpose sub-divisible exhibition hall, and a range of conference facilities. The new exhibition and conference facilities consist of a 9,000 sqm arena to accommodate a maximum of 15,000 people, 6,000 sqm of flexible exhibition space. A further 31,500 sqm, 1250 space subterranean car park doubles as exhibition space for events such as the biennial oil and gas Offshore Europe Exhibition. 10,000 sqm of external exhibition space can also be utilised. A continuous concourse connects all public functions, creating the opportunity to use the building for simultaneous performances or events. This route features merchandise units, bars and food & beverage units activating the ground floor concourse; an animated frontage viewed from the external central square through the dramatic main entrance. It is the scale of the project that takes the breath away. Some random facts: - The new TECA is 30.5 metres high, and just over 418 metres long - It would take Usain Bolt 40.8 seconds to run this length - The area of roof cladding at the new TECA is equivalent to 5 Pittodrie football pitches - The rows of seating would stretch for over 6,000 metres if placed end to end - It would take 89 Olympic swimming pools to fill the Subterranean Space - 8,300 tonnes of steel have been used in the construction of the new TECA - The Arena alone could hold up to 718 billion Smarties The project has been a key part of our practice for over a decade. It has reinforced our growing Arena and Stadia Portfolios, leading to several opportunities in other locations. And our team has become experts in the technical design criteria essential to ensuring the user experience is world-class. As Paris unveils its transformed cityscape for tonight's Olympic opening ceremony, the world is invited into a historic city which has benefited from contributions from some of the most renowned architects, designers, and urban planners. In a fascinating chapter of Olympic history, architecture was once celebrated alongside athletic achievements. From 1912 to 1948, the Olympic Games included artistic competitions where architects, painters, musicians, writers, and sculptors competed for gold, silver, and bronze medals. This "Concours d'Art" was the brainchild of Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympics, who envisioned an event that embraced excellence in both body and mind. Within these competitions, architecture was a prominent category, celebrating designs that captured the spirit of the times and the essence of the host cities. Architects submitted plans and models, showcasing their vision for buildings and urban spaces. At the 1928 Olympics in Amsterdam, Dutch architect Jan Wils won a gold medal for his design of the Olympic Stadium, which ingeniously incorporated the cauldron for the Olympic flame into its design - there might have been a home advantage there... Although the artistic competitions were discontinued after 1948, the legacy of architecture within the Olympics lives on. Today, each host city invests in innovative architectural projects, creating lasting landmarks that embody the Olympic ideals. At HartDixon, we appreciate the intricate art of architecture, which shapes the environments where we live, work, and celebrate. From groundbreaking stadiums to breathtaking urban landscapes, architecture remains a vital element of the projects we manage and it's a joy to see them come to life. #Olympics #Architecture #Design #UrbanPlanning #HartDixon

CASS design have been appointed by Flintshire County Council to develop a new build 1500sqm visitor centre in the grounds of the Greenfield Valley Heritage Park. The new centre will house a new retail area, public community gallery and multi-function exhibition space, indemnity standard gallery for touring exhibitions of national significance, an interactive AV gallery and exhibition space to tell the story of the wider valley, a new café/coffee shop and a mezzanine office space for the trust to hold meetings and for the support staff to work from. The ambition of the trust is for the Valley to become a top ten visitor attraction within North Wales with the new Visitor Centre acting as a catalyst for further investment and engagement with the wider valley. The site is set adjacent to a site of national historic importance, Basingwerk Abbey, managed by CADW. CASS Design undertook consultation with CADW to ensure that the proposed building made a positive contribution to the setting of the historic asset. The design brief also required the proposed building to demonstrate exemplary sustainable design and operational performance with an outstanding BREEAM rating target.
