The new Almoosa Rehabilitation Hospital, a striking facility bringing world-class care to Saudi Arabia, was awarded LEED v4 BD+C Healthcare Platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council — its highest recognition. The facility is the first LEED Platinum-certified hospital in the Middle East, showing its commitment to health extends to the environment. Meet Rashed Islam, P.E., PTOE, ENV SP, regional transportation director based in our Austin, TX office. Rashed started his career designing water and wastewater systems for residential neighborhoods where he grew up in Bangladesh. He then developed an interest in transportation infrastructure planning, which led him to the University of Texas at Austin. There, he earned his master's in civil engineering and ultimately started his career and family. Rashed has been with HDR for 18 years and is passionate about giving back to his community through HDR Foundation grants and mentoring to those who want to grow their careers. “Professionals at all levels at HDR have endless opportunities in front of them. A vulnerable section of railroad along the NO&M Subdivision, near the Louisiana and Mississippi border, is prone to service outages from strong waves and rising water levels during hurricanes and severe storms. We're working alongside CSX to elevate the tracks, harden the embankment and install a retaining wall while minimizing the construction footprint in an environmentally sensitive area. Omaha Public Library’s Downtown Branch was awarded the 2024 Best of Design Award for Adaptive-Reuse Education from The Architect's Newspaper. Originally built in 1912 as the Dale Cole Creamery Co., the historic building was transformed into a vibrant center for learning and community connection. While honoring its past with exposed brick and restored creamery tiles, the design also embraces technology, modern finishes and flexible spaces that can adapt to future needs. Earlier this week, nearly 900 employees attended IMPACT, our internal global conference held every other year for the Architecture and Building Engineering Services business groups. Over three days, attendees networked, engaged with practice leadership and participated in tailored educational sessions.
