EmpowerU Career Consulting’s Post

👇In 2016, while working as a digital manager at Guinness Nigeria, I decided to transition into classical brand management. Unfortunately, there was no opportunity at Guinness so I had to look externally. If you know much about career transitioning, you’ll know that doing it externally is extremely difficult. It can be a Herculean task; to convince a new company to hire you into a role you’ve never done versus experienced candidates internally and externally. So, what was my plan? I had a simple trick up my sleeve. I reached out to two of the kindest and best brand managers and asked if I could shadow them on some projects. I did this for a few months to understand the underpinnings of brand management and to ensure I had enough breadth to talk about at an interview. So much so that I landed a brand management job at GSK! Before applying for a new job, if you know that a specific experience is essential for the role you're targeting, it's best to do what I did! Get the right hands on experience by shadowing and learning from someone. However, if you don't have the opportunity to gain direct experience in the role, find commonalities in your experience and speak about that. Here's an answer template for your use: Answer Template: "With [Number] years of experience in [Industry/Field], I've developed a strong foundation in [Transferable Skill] from my time at [Company] as [Position]. In my previous position at [Company] as [Position], I was responsible for [Related Tasks] and achieved [Specific Outcome]. My experience in [Related Field or Responsibility] has provided me with a solid understanding of the day-to-day activities involved in this role. I'm excited to leverage my skills and experience, which I know will be highly beneficial for this role." We hope this helps. Meanwhile, who’s heard the gist about Guinness Nigeria?
