As of November 5, 2024, unofficial results indicate that a majority of Elmhurst Park District voters answered “yes” to the bond referendum request to raise revenue to improve, equip and maintain parks and facilities throughout the District, including replacing the Wagner Community Center; building a community bandshell at Wilder Park; adding permanent, heated restrooms at three parks and along the Prairie Path; and converting a grass field to artificial turf at Berens Park. Top of the discussion agenda at future meetings about affordable housing should be convincing local councils to charge commercial rates on all rental properties. Rental properties are the only commercial properties in Australia that do not pay commercial rates despite being owned exclusively for the purpose of earning an income for the owner - not as a place for them to live. This local rates loophole is unjustified and is paid for by higher rates paid by all other ratepayers.
National Affordable Housing congratulates David Crisafulli MP and the LNP - Liberal National Party on their successful election campaign. With housing being a significant election issue, National Affordable Housing looks forward to working with David Janetzki, Sam O'Connor and the Crisafulli Government on their shared equity home ownership program and their commitment to unleash the community housing sector to deliver homes for Queenslanders. We also acknowledge Steven Miles, Meaghan Scanlon and the outgoing Miles Government and thank them for their commitment to the community housing sector.

The General Election is on and we're calling all CLTs to lobby their Prospective Parliamentary Candidates! Our 10-point Manifesto for Community Land Trusts shows how the next government could wire community agency and ownership into the systems in England and Wales – whether it's for building affordable homes, codesigning and stewarding large-scale developments, regenerating our high streets, or restoring land for nature. See more about the manifesto and its launch here: https://lnkd.in/dKpJYEiN So we're calling on our members to contact their PPCs, showcasing what they plan to do in their communities and sharing our manifesto to show what policy change we need to see to support all kinds of CLTs. They can find templates here: https://lnkd.in/eXnPsdZa We know that our member lobbying can make a real impact. Over the past 5 years, our members' local lobbying has seen us make some real gains: - Over £240m of public money pledged for community led housing - Planning policies to encourage and incentivise land for community led development, including Community Led Exception Sites - Legislation to protect the ability of CLTs to charge ground rents, and – almost! – to exempt them from leasehold enfranchisement* Our vision and advocacy for CLTs will be at the heart of all sessions at our upcoming Building with Communities Conference on Friday 21 June - with speakers including our Pooja Agrawal (CEO of PUBLIC PRACTICE, Nicholas Boys Smith (Chair of CREATE STREETS and Office for Place) and our keynote speaker Charlie Luxton (Founder of Charlie Luxton Design, Channel 4 presenter and Hook Norton Community Land Trust Secretary). Find out more here bit.ly/BWCom2024 *we'll be keeping an eye on proceedings with the Leasehold Reform Bill to make sure the CLT exemption is not dropped #BWCom2024 #CLTs #CommunityLandTrust #CommunityLedHousing #Placemaking

Conservation and outdoor recreation are a good investment.
Virginia is home to 42 state parks. In 2022, Virginia's parks contributed $364.2M in total economic impact, $304.9M in total visitor spending, and supported 3,914 jobs. For every dollar invested in our state parks, $15.21 is returned in fresh money and $1.07 is returned in state and local taxes. Investing in Virginia's state parks not only enhances the quality of life for residents but also boosts tourism and economic growth in the region. This fall, California voters have the opportunity to undo an undemocratic feature in our elections. Local bond measures for infrastructure and housing currently require a 2/3 super majority. Voting #YESonProp5 will allow housing and infrastructure bonds to pass with 55%--the same level required for school bonds. With all the challenges our region faces, it's more important than ever that we as voters be empowered to say Yes to building housing and sustainable infrastructure in our communities.
This election, you can give YOUR local community more power to address the needs for affordable housing, safe roads, and emergency & fire response in YOUR neighborhood. Prop 5 provides us with tools to build more affordable housing while increasing first-time homebuyers’ assistance, making it easier for working families to stay in our safe communities. Vote #YESonProp 5 and bring the power back to the people. Learn more at YesOnProp5.org.

With Election Day just around the corner, we want to urge our community to vote 'Yes' on Question 3. 💜What is Question 3?💜 Question 3 asks Rhode Islanders to approve $120 million in bonds to boost housing in the Ocean State. 💜What does Approval of Question 3 do?💜 It would provide the state with $80M to develop low and moderate income housing, $10M for community revitalization projects, $20M to develop low, moderate, and middle income housing, $5M for site acquisition for supportive housing, $4M for housing-related infrastructure, and $1M for municipal planning. 💜What does that MEAN though?💜 Bond funds will be used to ensure Rhode Islanders who are seeking affordable housing can find it. Specifically, it will enable low-income workers to afford a safe and permanent place to call home. It will help give Rhode Island’s homeless families the opportunity for a better quality of life. Reminder: Election Day is November 5th but Early Voting has already begun! Visit https://vote.sos.ri.gov/ to find your polling place and view a sample ballot.
