Sam Altman donates majority of his wealth, joins Gates and Buffett’s ‘Giving Pledge’ Circle! We are excited to share that Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, along with his partner, Oliver Mulherin, has embraced the Giving Pledge. This initiative, founded by Bill Gates, Melinda French Gates, and Warren Buffett, calls on the world’s wealthiest to dedicate the majority of their wealth to philanthropic causes. Altman and Mulherin's commitment reflects their belief in technology’s potential to drive societal progress and abundance. In their pledge letter, Altman and Mulherin expressed profound gratitude for the collective efforts that enabled their success, highlighting their dedication to giving back and enhancing society. They wrote, "We would not be making this pledge if it weren't for the hard work, brilliance, generosity, and dedication to improve the world of many people that built the scaffolding of society that let us get here." They vow to pay it forward and help elevate society. The Giving Pledge has attracted numerous high-profile signatories, including MacKenzie Scott, Elon Musk, and Mark Zuckerberg. These individuals have pledged significant portions of their fortunes to address global challenges through philanthropy. Altman’s philanthropic focus aligns with his investment portfolio, which includes companies like Reddit and Stripe, and startups like Helion (nuclear energy) and Retro Biosciences (longevity biotech). Despite having no equity in OpenAI, Altman’s investments demonstrate his commitment to leveraging his wealth for societal benefit. At Ekaimpact, we draw inspiration from these philanthropic leaders who use their resources to drive positive change. Our mission aligns with this vision, as we strive to foster impactful giving and empower communities. Together, we can elevate the scaffolding of society a bit higher. We are here to help you start your philanthropic journey and make a meaningful impact on society. Let's work together to create a better future! ✳️Amazing initiatives led by locally-led network organisations like @ImpactInvestingGhana are working hard to structure new investment vehicles designed to address systemic roadblocks ✳️ SDG investment opportunities are many and represent massive markets ✳️ De-risking mechanisms exist and we know they work, they just need to be implemented more frequently So what now? ⏩ All: we need to focus on supporting and investing in locally-led initiatives and funds ⏩ MDBs and DFIs: develop mobilisation targets and strategies, unlock data from #GEMs asap and deploy de-risking instruments more systematically ⏩ Investors: wake up to the investment opportunities in EMs. Spoiler: it can bring you alpha. ⏩ Donors and philanthropies: coordinate and create pools of #catalyticcapital and ensure the most efficient use of such, for maximised impact goals (e.g. in geographies or sectors of most need). The Story That Will Change How You See Impact Investing Forever! 🤔 Ever felt like you could do more with your success? I’m in Cote D'Ivoire, witnessing transformation first-hand. We're on a mission with our non-profit, Elevate To Empower. Our goal? To uplift the underprivileged, offering them the ladder to self-reliance and prosperity. I met an inspiring figure, Binnie Bintou Cisse. Her rise from nothing to creating a foundation that fuels change for young women is nothing short of miraculous. It made me think: how can we, as corporate executives, leverage our positions for generational impact? We’ve scheduled meetings to explore partnerships that align with our vision of empowerment and prosperity. Because it's not just about business; it’s about creating a legacy that stands the test of time. What's one cause you're passionate about and why?🤔 Connect with me to discuss how we can make a bigger impact together. 🤝 #socialimpact #legacybuilding #empowermentjourney

Many organizations are shifting from program investments to those that address the “ecosystem” of an issue. Yet, as strategies shift toward greater investment in ecosystem change, how an organization measures and evaluates its work has largely remained the same. Ecosystem investments are characterized by a focus on creating system-level change by influencing specific stakeholder groups such as policymakers, high-net-worth individuals, business leaders, entrepreneurs, and others. Last week, SDG Impact Finance Initiative was pleased to co-organise the 6th edition of the Mission Multiplier with iGravity, AlphaMundi Group Ltd, Impact for Breakfast and SwissFoundations. The Mission Multiplier series supports foundations and explores ways for foundations to amplify their social impact beyond traditional grantmaking. - 𝐁𝐞𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬: Philanthropic finance alone isn't enough. As SwissFoundations eloquently put it, it's about "getting a hen that lays hundreds of eggs" rather than just "cooking one egg to eat." - 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐜 𝐏𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬: Foundations can amplify impact by using endowments to achieve positive impact, as seen with the PeaceNexus Foundation and BACoMaB Trust Fund, and by using programmatic capital to catalyse private capital through de-risking. The SDG Impact Finance Initiative, powered by catalytic funding from the UBS Optimus Foundation, is an example of the latter. - 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 the interactive exchange stressed the need for collective action and diverse collaboration, resulting in a call urging foundations to allocate at least 1% of endowments to impact investing. We hope this topic can be picked up at the Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association forum this week! Closing out the week with our exploration of three challenges experienced by small and mid-sized nonprofits when it comes to managing their investment portfolios — Access, Scale, and Mission-alignment. Question No. 3 is: Are your investment strategies truly reflecting your mission? 🤔 This is a question that many non-profit organizations grapple with. In the pursuit of financial returns, it’s easy to lose sight of the very values that drive our work. At Acansa Investment Management Group, we recognize every organization has unique non-financial goals. Our tailored holistic process is designed to ensure that your investment strategy is not only financially sound but also resonates with your mission. For our non-profit clients, we view aligning investment portfolios with mission-oriented goals not simply as a challenge but as an opportunity – to amplify the positive impact of their philanthropic endeavors.. So, how can non-profits bridge this gap? Here are a few strategies that can help: 1. Define Your Mission Clearly: Ensure everyone in your organization understands the mission. This clarity will guide investment decisions. 2. Engage Stakeholders: Involve your board, investment committee, staff, and community in discussions about financial strategies. Diverse perspectives can lead to innovative solutions. 3. Utilize the IPS: As you explore Impact and Impact-Aligned investments – emphasizing opportunities that reflect and support your mission and avoiding those that may be contrary – delineate in your IPS where you need market-rate returns and where you can flex in order to amplify impact. So, how are you currently integrating your mission into your investment strategy? Let’s spark a conversation! #MissionDriven #HolisticFinance #Investment #Nonprofits #Impact #IPS
