The Satellite Applications Catapult and Glasgow Caledonian University, in association with Space4Climate, would like to invite organisations operating in the UK space sector to submit an expression of interest for a free carbon audit. The audit includes a free and confidential report which provides your company with an understanding of its carbon footprint, with recommendations for reducing its overall impact based on the identified challenges and opportunities. The data collected will be anonymised and aggregated into a broader analysis which aims to gauge the approximate carbon footprint of the UK space sector through extrapolation techniques. This broader analysis will be presented to UKRI, UKSpace and the UKSA in the form of a report, with no identifiable company information being put into the public domain. This initiative is being run as part of Dr Andrew Wilson's Researchers in Residence Innovation Scheme project, titled "Baselining the Carbon Footprint of the UK Space Sector". There is no obligation to you or your company by submitting this expression of interest. Expression of interest form: https://ow.ly/gjMs50SZneF

The EPFL Space Center goes to Brussels to support the #PEFCR4Space definition! Launched by the European Commission DG DEFIS and co-chaired by VITO, PRé Sustainability, and Novaspace (Merger of Euroconsult & SpaceTec Partners), the Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules (PEFCR) for the space sector are shaping the future of the European space market. The EPFL Space Center joined the Technical Secretariat (TS), collaborating with industry, academia, and agencies to define life cycle assessment (LCA) rules for space systems. Mathieu Udriot attended meetings in November and December, sharing EPFL's expertise on space sustainability and LCA, particularly in launch vehicle projects with ESA FLPP, academic partners, and ArianeGroup. This effort will help to keep Swiss researchers and industries up-to-date while contributing to a more sustainable space sector. We look forward to continuing in 2025! Project Kick-Off NeT 🎉 In the course of the current commercialisation of space, advanced automation of tests and operational infrastructures or processes are key factors for the #NewSpace sector. Increased test automation is critical to promote early and continuous functional testing within rapid design, integration and test cycles. New digitalised and standardised approaches can increase the efficiency of test procedures, facilitate evaluation and reporting and optimise effectiveness, reproducibility and infrastructure utilisation. We are therefore pleased to announce the launch of our NeT pioneer project, which aims to develop and implement digitalised, automated and standardised test capabilities for NewSpace technologies. NeT pioneer is intended to demonstrate the feasibility of digital NewSpace testing processes and thus help to create the missing rapid test infrastructure for satellite development in Germany. This activity is funded by the Deutsche Raumfahrtagentur im DLR and the Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz. Fraunhofer AVIATION & SPACE aims to investigate the potential of digitalisation in NewSpace testing in order to increase efficiency, reduce costs and strengthen Germany's global competitiveness. Stephan Busch (Fraunhofer EMI, branch Würzburg) and Nadya Ben Bekhti-Winkel (Fraunhofer AVIATION & SPACE) take over the project management of the powerful NeT pioneer consortium with the Institutes Fraunhofer EMI, Fraunhofer IIS, Fraunhofer INT, Fraunhofer IOF, Fraunhofer IPM, Fraunhofer Institute for Silicate Research ISC, and the industry partners Astos Solutions, GSSE and LEOspace GmbH.
