The story of #university #transformation and its legacy seldom writes on its own. The ones that write it are always those (so much needed) #change agents and #impact visionaries that shape this needed transition towards #entrepreneurial, #engaged and #SDG-driven academia. And this is exactly what this year's ACEEU Europe-Africa Forum and Triple E Awards (Lisbon, Portugal) excellently provided ! The notable parts of the first day started with a pioneering transformation case study on Deggendorf Institute of Technology (Germany) delivered by Prof Peter Schmieder and it was followed by a panel with Isabel Rocha from Universidade Nova de Lisboa de Lisboa, Portugal, Fabrizio Fornari, University of Camerino and myself, representing EIT Manufacturing under the moderation of Thorsten Kliewe, Chair of ACEEU. Higher education transformation together with their nearby #regional #innovation #ecosystems have always been under my portfolio for the past 10 years and now we are getting closer and closer to mainstreaming the most painful questions in this field: * Is the future academic ready to (equally) teach, research (with high-impact) and generate revenues (enterprising or commercialising) ? * Do universities' administrative units have the right infrastructures and competences to really support the transformation of such academics ? * Are universities sufficiently aware of their role in shaping their regional innovation ecosystems (and supporting #smartspecialisation) ? Are they really understanding that regional #talent pools, cluster growth and industrial value is solely based on their extroversion and policy / industry / societal impacts ? Luckily, we are also at a point where there is a lot of help. For example (among many others): * Organizations like ACEEU that can help universities to become entrepreneurial and engaged and that show-case leaders and succesfull stories in this field. * Leading grant-based competitions like the EIT HEI Initiative from the EIT - European Institute of Innovation and Technology * Our own Education, Business Creation, Innovation and Regional Innovation Scheme (RIS) pillars from EIT Manufacturing * Learning resource hubs: EIT Campus and EIT Deep Tech Talent * The #HEINNOVATE initiative (https://lnkd.in/dY8K8A_M) of the European Commission and OECD - OCDE * Erasmus+ 's European University Aliances, Partnerships for Innovation and Enterprise, Vocational Centres of Excellence. * WIDERA programme from Horizon Europe and many others. It is up to us where we want to position ourselves in this massive transformation.

📢 Key Takeaways from the European University Association Trends 2024 Report The Report analyses the #EU #HigherEdu institutions’ perspectives and strategies with regard to their multiple missions. It is based on survey responses from 480 #HigherEducation institutions in 46 #European higher education systems. Below, the key takeaways: 🚀 Digital Transformation & Covid-19 Impact: Digitalisation and the Covid-19 pandemic are top influencers on institutional strategies since 2018. #BlendedLearning and #OnlineEducation have seen significant growth, with a strong emphasis on #StudentWellbeing and #MentalHealth. 🌍 European Policies & National Reforms: #Erasmus+ and the #BolognaProcess are highly valued, with over 98% of HEIs highlighting their importance. The United Nations Sustainable Development Goals present an excellent framework to foster international collaboration in higher education and research - and Times Higher Education's unique data provides the perfect matchmaking tool. The THE Impact Rankings assess universities' contribution to each one of the 17 UN SDGs, amassing many thousands of data points across 2,000+ universities in over 120 countries - on their teaching, research, outreach and the stewardship of resources. The data provides a unique and unprecedented opportunity to highlight previously hidden best practice across all of the SDGs and to open doors to collaboration and mobility. To be ranked in the overall impact rankings, universities must submit to #SDG17 - partnerships for the goals - to show a clear commitment collaboration. The table blow provides a look at the participation and performance for each European country in #SDG16 - peace, justice and strong institutions.
