At DFR, community is the heart of everything we do. We strive to ensure our programs honor the dignity of every individual we serve. Instead of relying on a single hub to distribute recovered food, our decentralized No Cost Grocery Program (NCGP) model allows us to meet people where they are—in their own communities, where they feel safe and comfortable. We partner with 21 nonprofits, schools, health centers, and resident councils so that people can easily access food in familiar, trusted community spaces. Often, community members themselves help set up and distribute the food, meaning neighbors are receiving food from people they know and trust—not from outsiders who may not fully understand their unique needs and preferences. This model prioritizes agency, which is the first step toward achieving true food sovereignty. 💚 Help us sustain this work by donating to Denver Food Rescue this Colorado Gives Day at https://lnkd.in/grnBY_2F. #CommunityFirst #FoodRecovery #NutritionSecurity #NoCostGroceries #DenverFoodRescue #FoodJustice #FoodAccessForAll

In our 2023 Annual Report, we take a look at trends at FISH over the past few years, particularly comparing pre-pandemic numbers to today. What we are seeing is continued growth in need, as the high cost of living paired with fewer support resources adds more and more strain for families. One area in which we have seen considerable increases is the pounds of food we distribute each year. In 2023, FISH distributed 1,560,603 pounds of food, more than any other year in our history as an organization. Our marketplace could not run without the generous support of our community. We source food from four main sources: donations from our Broomfield grocery stores and restaurant partners, Community Food Share, in-kind donations from our neighbors (which includes food drives!), and purchased food made possible by our incredible donors and by grant funding. All of these support networks allow us to stock a variety of food and personal care items for our families so they can shop for what their families need. A new study by Iowa State University researchers suggests that while community donation gardens serve as a critical nutritional safety net for Iowans, particularly during times of public crisis such as COVID-19, more attention is needed to ensure that their operational model is financially sustainable, democratically governed, and socially inclusive enough to provide reliable, accessible donations to food pantry patrons. #Omaha #CommunitySupport #OmahaNeedsUs #OmahaBusinesses #OmahaBusinessLeaders #OmahaNeeds Food insecurity rates are higher in some areas of Omaha, including northeast, southeast, and northwest Omaha, where rates can reach as high as 48.5%. Food insecurity is even more common among families with children. In Omaha, one in five children under the age of 18 goes to bed hungry every night. Heartland Kids Against Hunger is working to contribute to stocking shelves at multiple area food pantries such as Heart Ministry Center, Together Omaha, University of Nebraska at Omaha, and more. Omaha business and organization leaders can make a large and lasting impact in our communities and beyond by encouraging volunteering and giving. Without your help, many community members including children would be going without. Every dollar donated to Heartland Kids Against Hunger goes towards packing highly nutritious meals and is tax-deductable.

Did you know that 40% of all food in the U.S. is wasted? Meanwhile, millions of people face food insecurity every day. Hunger at Home is tackling this challenge by repurposing unused, good food to serve those in need. Since 2015, they’ve provided an incredible 15 million meals to the community. Here’s another eye-opener: just 25% of the billions of pounds of food wasted could solve food insecurity within our communities. Today, our San Jose Robert Half team had the honor of volunteering with Hunger at Home. Together, we packed nearly 500 meals! These meals will be shared immediately with the community at the PayPal Park distribution center in partnership with multiple nonprofits. Organizations like Sysco make this work possible by donating good, unused food to ensure it gets to those who need it most. While this is just one step in a larger fight against hunger, the experience was both humbling and inspiring. There’s still so much more work to be done. If you’re looking to donate, or volunteer, I highly recommend checking out this amazing organization. Every small act can make a big difference! #GivingBack #HungerRelief #CommunityImpact #VolunteerWork

No one should have to choose between feeding their families and other basic necessities. Organizations such as those gathered at the Capitol today fulfill a vital role in our community: ensuring that all people have access to fresh, healthy food. Thanks to their tireless efforts, we can work towards a Wisconsin where no one goes hungry. Ensuring that everyone has the ability to feed their families should be a top priority in our state. That is why it is essential that we provide food pantries and other food service organizations with the necessary resources to carry out their essential mission. As demand for their services increases, so should our support of their efforts. The time is now to act in alignment with our values. It is not enough to say that all people deserve to have food on the table – we need to ensure that food makes it there. That is why I am proud to stand beside each and every one of these vital organizations and uplift their call for additional funding and resources so they can continue to serve our communities. Only by working together can we create a more fair and equitable Wisconsin where everyone has what they need to grow and thrive.
This morning, a coalition of more than 30 Dane County food pantries, including WayForward, released a letter to the community, sounding an alarm about the rising demand for assistance and the need for both immediate community support and longer-term solutions to fill the gap. Please read and share this message with your networks! Thank you to United Way of Dane County and Wisconsin State Journal for co-sponsoring this full-page message in today's edition of the newspaper. This #GivingTuesday, let’s think beyond traditional gifts and embrace the spirit of giving in a more impactful way. We believe that giving doesn’t always have to be wrapped in a bow. This season, consider: 1. Donating Fresh Produce: Share the abundance from your holiday table by donating fresh fruits and vegetables to local food banks. It’s a gift that nourishes and uplifts communities. 2. Supporting Food Drives: Look for food drives collecting essentials for those in need. A small contribution can make a huge difference. 3. Volunteering Your Time: Give the gift of your time by volunteering at local shelters or food distribution centers. 4. Sponsor a Family's Holiday Meal: Many organizations offer opportunities to sponsor holiday meals for families, ensuring they have a joyful celebration. Here’s a quick roundup of food donation and drives to explore: • Feeding America’s Food Bank Locator: Find a food bank near you • AmpleHarvest.org: Donate garden surplus • World Vision: Sponsor a family in need Let’s spread kindness and joy this season by giving thoughtfully and helping those in need. Together, we can make this season brighter for everyone. #GivingTuesday #NonTraditionalGifts #FoodDonations #PlanetHarvest
