Echandia Wins Record Order Echandia has secured an order for the delivery of battery systems to a Northern European ferry operator. The order involves converting two RoPax ferries to pure electric propulsion and is Echandia's largest to date, both in terms of value and system size. Delivery is planned for the second half of 2025. The main reasons Echandia's battery systems were chosen for this prestigious project are their long lifespan, high safety, and the fact that they require roughly half the installation space compared to other systems. “We are seeing a clear trend towards more and larger orders for converting ferries from fossil fuel to electric propulsion. This order is our largest to date and the result of focused work on both our products and partnerships within the maritime sector. This also solidifies that we are now seriously considered one of the leading suppliers in maritime electrification. An important milestone for Echandia”, says Fredrik Hellström, CEO of Echandia.

So glad to see the Mireo Plus H hydrogen trains in commercial operation now in Bavaria and Brandenburg. A huge step towards CO2 neutral train operation on non electrified lines. Hydrogen is the only option in this case where the distance exceeds the currently possible range of battery trains. Additional to CO2 neutral operation the trains come with significant lower noise emissions compared to conventional Diesel trains. People living close to the track and close to the stations will love this feature. I think this is the start of a new era of environmentally friendly commuter train operation.
Get ready to get on board – our hydrogen trains start in regular operation! 🚝 On Germany’s timetable change on December 15th, our Mireo Plus H joins the fleets of Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) and Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB), making it the first hydrogen-powered train in Bavaria, Berlin and Brandenburg. After extensive preparation and test runs, #Mireo Plus H was approved for passenger operation by the Federal Railway Authority. On the routes from Augsburg to Füssen and Peißenberg as well as Berlin to Schmachtenhagen and Groß Schönebeck, the hydrogen trains will now replace diesel trains. It can travel up to 1,200 km on just a single tank of hydrogen. 🌎 Learn more about how we #TransformMobilityForEveryone with Mireo Plus H: https://sie.ag/26x1te

Battery Technologies for Multiple Units - Accelerating the Electrification of the Railway with Ezequiel Glasserman from Stadler Deutschland. Rail is already the most climate-friendly means of transportation, but there is still a lot of potential. Only in Germany one in four trains still run on fossil fuels, due to a lack of overhead line infrastructure. Battery electrical multiple units, such as the Stadler FLIRT Akku, offer a clean and environmentally friendly hybrid solution to this problem. The demands on the reliability and quality of trains, which are in use almost around the clock for up to 30 years, place high demands on the battery system. Here we will introduce the first series-produced battery electrical multiple unit in Germany. https://lnkd.in/esGp9P5Q Save €150 with Discount Code 2428-SPK. #AABCEurope

In Germany, hydrogen-powered trains are rapidly developing as part of the country's strategy to transition to sustainable and eco-friendly technologies. Siemens Mobility and Niederbarnimer Eisenbahn (NEB) have officially introduced zero-emission rail transport in Berlin and Brandenburg with the inaugural hydrogen-powered Mireo Plus H train. The launch marks a significant step towards fossil-fuel-free regional rail by 2037. Alongside this, NEB also presented the Mireo Plus B battery-powered train for the East Brandenburg network. As a driver, the range information is important to me. A hydrogen-powered train can travel approximately 1,000 km on a single tank of fuel, while battery trains can cover up to 120 km operating on batteries alone. These eco-friendly trains are expected to cut CO2 emissions by 14.5 million kilograms annually and save 5.5 million liters of diesel, boosting regional transport sustainability. Full operation will start in December 2024. #Futureishere, #Hydrogen, #Hydrogentrain, #Berlin
