Clearly Just renewing the fleet with latest technology is not a Net Zero solution, unless SAF and CCUS can scale - we know that the public have been warned of the branding of 'Sustainable' in SAF it is 'Synthetic' non-Fossil Kerosene. Better to call it what it is - and consider the moonshots, as Dan Rutherford and The International Council on Clean Transportation revealed yesterday in their Webinar we need Zero Emissions Aircraft sooner, and Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA) touches on the need to accelerate Hydrogen for Narrowbody Aircraft to be in service by 2035...let's use the technologies we have with HyFlux, alongside fuel cells from H2FLY, and others to bring a single aisle solution to the skies. #Hydrogen #Zeroemissions #Superconducting #Motors

🌍✈️ Aviation already accounts for around 2.5 per cent of global CO₂ emissions, and when non-CO₂ effects are included, its contribution to climate warming increases to approximately 4 per cent. Despite ambitious pledges from governments and industry, the sector remains dangerously off track. There is an urgent need to raise ambition and for cross-sector leadership to accelerate this decision point in aviation, setting it on a path to achieve net zero by 2050. Today the Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA) Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and the Whittle Laboratory is releasing its groundbreaking report, ‘Five Years to Chart a New Future for Aviation’, outlining an ambitious plan calling for leaders to make structural changes in order to meet the net-zero target. The report outlines four Sustainable Aviation Goals in order to achieve #SustainableAviation: ⚖️Implementing a new wave of policies aimed at unlocking system-wide efficiency gains across the existing aviation sector. ✈️ Accelerating the deployment of a global contrail avoidance system, which could reduce aviation’s climate impact by up to 40%. 🌗Launching several moonshot technology demonstration programmes designed to rapidly assess the viability and scalability of transformative technologies, bringing forward the timeline for their deployment. ⚡Reforming Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) policies to account for global biomass limits across all sectors while driving renewable electricity production. A report by the University of Cambridge’s Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA) project sets out four actionable steps that are needed over the next five years to help the global aviation sector achieve net zero emissions by 2050, reports Christopher Surgenor for GreenAir News. Despite ambitious pledges from governments and industry, the sector so far “remains dangerously off track” in its efforts, says the report, and insists the four goals must be implemented immediately, otherwise “the opportunity for transformation could be lost”. This would leave the world to face escalating climate impacts from a rapidly growing aviation sector that is projected to at least double its emissions by 2050.
