🌍 We're officially launching our Conscious Food Systems Leadership Programme (African Cohort), delivered and designed in partnership with Inner Green Deal🌍 This programme aims to help food systems practitioners in Africa enhance their sustainability efforts through #consciousness-based practices. By adopting a #holistic approach, it addresses the #food system #crisis by fostering #innercapacities aligned with the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) Framework's five dimensions: being, thinking, relating, collaborating, and acting. This programme will help participants: 🌱 Develop a more holistic approach to addressing the food system crisis, incorporating the role of inner capacities. 🌱 Develop relevant inner capacities and skills to support the transformation towards regenerative food systems. 🌱 Have the capacity to integrate the inner dimension into their work (into their way of working, team, organisations and projects) with outer challenges (food system change). 🌱 Become familiar with #COFSA key concepts and approaches (inner capacities, consciousness approaches and practices, CoFSA model of transformation, CoFSA areas of intervention, etc.) 🌱 Nurture a sense of belonging and connection to the CoFSA community The programme will start on March 4th and end by May13th, and it is open to 50 participants. 💡 This programme is free to CoFSA Members. Combining science with people power 💪📈 Our global food systems are not working for the many people: hundreds of millions of people around the world go hungry every day, while the food system accounts for up to a third of all greenhouse gas emissions each year. Food systems are complex and require leaders with the skills and vision to transform these systems, so they respect the limits of our planet and ensure the wellbeing of people now and in the future. ➡ What we do The African Food Fellowship, supported by Wageningen University & Research and IKEA Foundation, is building a continent-wide leadership programme to support the next generation of food systems leaders. We believe it’s vital to nurture emerging local leaders who can transform the way we produce our food, so it benefits both people and the planet. ➡ How we create positive change Our partnership has already brought forward 350 graduates in Kenya and Rwanda, and the Food Fellowship is steadily growing. Creating strong networks of skilled and visionary leaders is key to transforming the food system in Africa. Wageningen University also has a cutting-edge research lab, which I visited earlier this year. These photos show the university’s crop research facilities, which left me inspired and optimistic that we can use agricultural land more sustainably in future. 📢📢 Call to action Let’s listen to and include the people closest to the problem in developing the solution. The system transformation must be just, equitable, empowering for local communities and we need to develop solutions #Together. What can the food movement teach other systems leaders? “The food system presents a special case when it comes to leadership: Not only is a special type of systems leadership—food systems leadership—possible, requiring distinctive structures and skills, but it presents a unique opportunity for increasing civic engagement across society. … “The food movement has been instrumental in creating awareness about how this complicated system works, and how to create change within complex systems. This means the food system, and food systems leadership in particular, can provide a template and launchpad for stakeholder engagement in other systemic domains, like health care, education, and energy.” Nessa Richman, executive director of the Rhode Island Food Policy Council and an adjunct professor at the University of Rhode Island College of the Environment and Life Sciences, shares five key food systems leadership practices to nourish systems change.

Musings on the 2024 Public Trust Summit 🐮🐓🥚🌾🍎🥗🥫🛤️🏦🛒🧑🍳 October 23-24 is fast approaching, and if there’s ever been a time to get serious about addressing indifference in all parts of our food system, it’s now. This year’s Public Trust Summit, dubbed “Trust in Action: Cultivating Public Confidence” is where those conversations turn into real, collaborative action. It’s not just about attending; it’s about engaging with people who are driving change, sharing ideas, and working together to shape the future of how we build trust with Canadians. 🤝 I truly believe this Summit will be different. We’re focusing on hands-on, interactive sessions that go beyond the usual discussions. You’ll leave with real strategies you can use, stronger relationships across the food system, and a clearer sense of how we can work together to elevate the trust people have in our food. 🍽️💡 If you’ve been waiting to jump in, now’s the time. This is where change happens – and we need everyone at the table. I hope to see you there. 🙌 Register now: https://lnkd.in/gZrPYkvM #PublicTrust #TrustInAction #FoodSystem #Leadership #PublicTrustSummit2024

Within a global and national context of relentless change, the challenges faced by Food and Fibre requires high-performing leaders for the teams they serve. To help address this, Rural Leaders was commissioned by Food and Fibre CoVE in September 2022, to research and design a leadership development ecosystem for Aotearoa New Zealand’s Food and Fibre sector. ‘A Path to Realising Leadership Potential in Aotearoa NZ’s Food and Fibre Sector’ is the result of this collaboration and provides a much-needed framework for the Sector to develop a flow of prepared leaders to step into ever more impactful roles. The report brings together the thinking in the previously completed reports; ‘The State of Leadership Development in NZ’s Food and Fibre Sector’, and ‘A Principles-centred Model for NZ’s Food and Fibre Sector. ‘A Path to Realising Leadership Potential in Aotearoa NZ’s Food and Fibre Sector’, is enriched by the concepts of Te Ao Māori and Pacific cultures and offers a principles-centred model for leading in the Sector. It encourages leaders to find their personal leadership approach and to embark on their own path. The new report is divided into three sections: 1. Why We Lead – explaining the history and changing landscape of the Sector, 2. How We Lead – exploring the qualities of effective leadership and presenting a new principles-centred leadership model, 3. How We Grow Leadership – introducing the leadership development ecosystem, designed to nurture continuous and methodical advancement in leadership capability. The concept of an ecosystem fits with the nature of the Sector, which is a complex weave of industries and people connected to each other and the natural world. Rural Leaders wish to sincerely acknowledge the tireless work of the author team, project collaboration partners Food and Fibre Centre of Vocational Excellence and the generous support of our Strategic Partners DairyNZ, Beef + Lamb New Zealand, FMG (Farmers Mutual Group), AGMARDT (The Agricultural and Marketing Research and Development Trust), Mackenzie Charitable Foundation, and Programme Partners Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC), Farmlands Co-operative Society Limited, Zespri International, Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI), Foundation for Arable Research (FAR), Horticulture New Zealand, and Rabobank New Zealand.
