A Powerful Lesson in Sportsmanship and Values. Remember the inspiring story of Kenyan runner Abel Mutai and Spanish athlete Ivan Fernandez? As Mutai approached the finish line, he became confused and stopped, thinking he had won. Fernandez, right behind him, realized the mistake and selflessly pushed Mutai to victory. When asked why he didn't take advantage of the situation, Fernandez replied, "My dream is to create a community where we help each other win." He added, "I didn't let him win; the race was his." This remarkable display of sportsmanship and integrity teaches us a valuable lesson. In our pursuit of success, let's not forget the importance of honesty, ethics, and kindness. By passing on these values to future generations, we can create a more supportive and compassionate community. As Fernandez so eloquently put it, "What would be the merit of my victory? What would be the honor in that medal?" Let's strive to win with integrity and honor, and celebrate the beauty of a helping hand.

During my basketball days, my coach instilled in us the importance of sportsmanship, regardless of whether we won or lost. These lessons have greatly influenced my character and shaped who I am today. Sportsmanship is the embodiment of ethical behavior, fair play, respect, and integrity in sports and this is how I relate to it now. Fostering Respect Treat every interaction with: - Integrity - Honesty - Professionalism "I demonstrate respect in my role as a financial advisor by prioritizing my clients' best interests above all else. Exemplifying Integrity I will always give clear, ethical advice, being transparent about any conflicts of interest, no matter the circumstances. When I attended my son’s sports day last week, I witnessed a lot of good sportsmanship, which got me thinking: How often do we display and appreciate good sportsmanship at work? Do we always respect our competitors, both external and internal? (when resources are scarce, there inevitably will be internal competition) Do we engage in fair play in our business practices? Do we handle both success and failure with grace? Do we truly display team spirit, going beyond collaboration to foster support and mutual respect? I hope reflecting on these questions can help us bring the principles of sportsmanship into our professional lives, creating a more positive and productive work environment. (If you have examples of good sportsmanship at work, please share them!)

Inspiring Acts of Sportsmanship: A Lesson for Us All In a memorable display of integrity and sportsmanship, Kenyan runner Abel Mutai was just a few feet from the finish line during a cross-country race in Burlada, Navarre, on December 2, 2012, when he mistakenly stopped, thinking he had completed the race. Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez, who was right behind him, realized what was happening. Instead of taking advantage of the situation, Fernandez started shouting at Mutai to continue running. When language barriers prevented understanding, Fernandez pushed Mutai forward, ensuring he crossed the finish line first. When asked why he did this, Fernandez responded, “My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life where we push and help each other to win.” He emphasized that Mutai was the rightful winner and that taking advantage of the confusion would not have been a true victory. This story reminds us that true success isn’t just about winning—it’s about integrity, respect, and helping others. These are the values that we should pass on to future generations. Let’s embody these principles in our professional lives. Let’s uplift each other, celebrate rightful achievements, and strive for a community where everyone’s success is honored. Because in the end, honesty and ethics are the true victories. #Sportsmanship #Integrity #Leadership #Values #Inspiration #fyp #risebyliftingothers
