What inspired me to work in the affordable housing industry? Can't wait to hear from our panelists Nov 18th in the Windy City!
Two pivotal experiences shaped my path:
Volunteering for @Junior Achievement each year in Charlotte, NC. I learned firsthand about food insecurity, financial struggle, and unsafe neighborhoods. I’ll never forget asking the children what they were dressing up as for Halloween—one little boy burst into tears because his mom couldn’t afford a costume, and none of the students trick-or-treated in their own neighborhood. (Happy to report my team at PwC bought the entire class costumes.)
Poverty Simulation hosted for employees by PwC opened my eyes to the uphill battle faced by those financially behind. Simple things like having direct deposit versus riding a bus to a check-cashing agency, or the dilemma of sick children keeping a parent from work translating to no pay for that day (no paid PTO), reminded me how fragile financial stability can be.
These experiences gave me a deep sense of purpose—to help ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable housing and the opportunity to live in thriving communities. It’s about creating security, opportunity, and dignity for all.

Who inspired you to do the work you're doing? For many of us, the answer is family: our mothers, grandmothers, daughters and sisters. At WAHN's Windy City Luncheon, we'll be focusing on Generational Strength, and hearing from some affordable housing powerhouses about their journeys and the impact their families had on them.
Join us at noon on November 18th at Swissotel Chicago to hear from Tracey Scott of the Chicago Housing Authority, Cissy Watson and Ali Watson of Mansermar Development, LLC, Guacolda Reyes of The Resurrection Project and Cat Vielma of Red Stone Equity Partners LLC
They embody Generational Strength, and we're excited to hear their stories of leadership, family legacy, and the future of housing.

🌳 The story behind our brand 🌳 At Thomas Park, our brand holds a deep, personal connection to our roots. Our name was inspired by a park in Boston—Thomas Park—a place of pivotal significance to our CEO, EJ Rumpke. It’s where he made the decision to leave his career in accounting and move to Maryland to join forces with our CIO, Alex Kopicki.
One of the best things about welcoming a new employee is the change in dynamic.
I took all of the site team for a beer yesterday afternoon to talk through recent method changes, tricky jobs and get their feedback too.
It was a great chance to see them all interacting too and see some of the quieter guys who were previously the newbies come out of their shell a bit.

🥳⚒️Happy Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker. A great day for everyone on LinkedIn to celebrate your hard work.
St. Josemaría Escrivá wrote that work is the fulcrum upon which human activity takes on divine meaning, and he highlights three aspects that operate in an organic way to mutually influence one another. The first is the sanctification of work, which is the most basic aspect and the root of the other two. The second is sanctifying oneself in work, which is a result of the first. The third is sanctifying others through work, which is a result of the preceding two aspects.
So, celebrate your hard work today. Cheers! 🍻

While preorders are critical, anytime a friend has a book come out I prefer to get it IN the store that day to:
1) ensure some launch day foot traffic to show demand
2) tell the staff they're either low on inventory or (in this case!) SOLD OUT and clearly need to reorder fast!
3) make the store aware of the title if they never stocked it
Today was pub day for these 3 titles, all of which I now happily have in my apartment and can't wait to dig into:
- Daisy Auger-Domínguez Burnt Out To Lit Up
- Adriana Carrig The Power Of Little Words
- Terry Szuplat Say It Well
I'm lucky enough to be attending book talks for all three so posts about each will likely follow...
And for now, highly recommend following each of these authors (and all around incredible humans!) as you'll see some of their posts about their books and more.
And if like me you're hoping to write your own non-fiction masterpiece, one more related launch from today:
Fran Hauser and Bethany Saltman, cohosts of the insightful BookBound podcast, launched their substack today. It is full of incredible tips for all aspiring authors. Highly recommend subscribing!
Happy reading and/or writing!! And if you know of any other books w/ pub dates today or in the near future, please share below so we can all support!

When your friend shows up at Barnes & Noble, Inc. on Union Square the day before pub day, grabs the last copy of Burnt Out to Lit Up, and cheekily asks them to order more… that’s the kind of energy I’m here for! 😂📚
Thank you Sally Wolf for being such a supportive and kind friend. Huge thanks to everyone who’s already snatched up their copy! If you find those shelves looking empty, don’t be shy—ask for more! 😉
"The building is really one continuous volume, and when you look at how the ramp navigates that space, it forces you to immerse yourself into the language and design process that's going on in each and every studio."
Matt Canterna, AIA (BSArch ’07, MArch ’09), Principal and CFO at Wellogy in Columbus, Ohio.

In honor of the 20th anniversary of Knowlton Hall, we spoke to some of those responsible for its creation and to those who use the building every day.
