Women's History Month originated from a grassroots movement in Sonoma County, California to honor women's contributions to history, culture, and society. It provides a platform to recognize trailblazing women who have shattered barriers and paved the way for future generations. Despite significant strides, women continue to face systemic barriers in various aspects of life, including the workplace, healthcare, and education. Gender pay gaps, lack of representation in leadership roles, and gender-based discrimination persist as pressing challenges that demand attention and action. This year's theme celebrates “Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion”, recognizing women who understand that, for a positive future, we need to eliminate bias and discrimination from our lives and institutions. March is Women’s History Month! It’s a time for celebrating just how far women have come and to think about how far they still have to go. While the world business is still male-dominated and oriented — women are breaking barriers, challenging workplace norms, and making huge strides in entrepreneurship and business. History is filled with inspiring stories of women who broke barriers in business. Names like Madam C.J. Walker, Mary Kay Ash, and Indra Nooyi serve as powerful examples of female leadership and innovation. Today, countless women are leading the way in various fields, shattering glass ceilings and building billion-dollar empires. Recognizing their achievements fuels aspirations for future generations. E.L.F. BEAUTY is genuinely changing the Board game. Their new campaign highlights how many publicly traded companies LACK women and diversity on their Board of Directors. The stats are startling: • Women make up only 27% of US corporate boards • The average US corporate board is 88% white • There are 2x more men named Dick than Hispanic women. • Black women and Asian women barely outnumber men named Dick. • There are 19x more men named Dick than women of Middle Eastern descent. • There are only 3 Native American women serving on these boards. How to Celebrate Women’s History Month at Work It’s a time to celebrate women’s contributions to World history. This year’s theme is “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence.” The theme honors “women who have led efforts to end war, violence, and injustice and pioneered the use of nonviolence to change society.” If you haven’t celebrated this month in the past, I encourage you to make this ritual part of your culture. It sends a clear message to potential and current team members that women are supported and will be treated well by the organization. Openly honoring women supports your efforts to attract and retain this group that makes up about 47% of the workforce (Department of Labor). In today’s tight labor market, it’s important to share your organization’s values – such as inclusion and equality – to differentiate from the competition. As a woman owned business since 1999, we are excited to celebrate Women's History Month!   Each March since 1995, by presidential proclamation, we’ve highlighted the often unsung contributions of women over the course of U.S. history during Women’s History Month. This annual commemoration is marked with events and programs in schools, libraries, community centers, and workplaces nationwide.   The National Women’s History Alliance theme for Women’s History Month 2024 is “Women Who Advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion”—a theme that’s a perfect fit for today’s workplaces celebrating women’s contributions.   “Women from every background have long realized that an uneven playing field will never bring equality or justice. Many feel the critical need to speak up and work harder for fairness in our institutions and social interactions.
