If you ever look at the tags on our social media posts and wonder, "Who are they?" we'll tell you now. They're our partners, and we couldn't do what we do without them. There's a lot to running an organization like ours and while we greatly appreciate when people give us money, we also benefit from the guidance and steering that these groups give us. As a group barely a year old, we soak up all the tips and lessons that our partners can give us. It's also a sign of how things should be in the nonprofit world. We need to help each other. There is competition for resources, yes, but there's also plenty of opportunity for collaboration and referrals. A volunteer who may be unsuited for one agency could thrive in a different one. For example, someone who signed up to help at an animal shelter may find out the hard way that pet dander is not their friend. But walking dogs for a group like Elderdog is right up their alley. Our mission at Volunteer Peterborough is simple; we strive to match volunteers to the ideal organization, and make the recruitment process easier. Our partner agencies make that happen. Stop by our Partners page and see the full group of people that help us do what we do. And we love them for it. https://buff.ly/3JFesd7 #FanFriday #NonProfitLife #ValuableAssets #Partners #CommunityBuilding #Besties

Please take a moment to read our Annual Report. This is from the 'Year Ahead' https://lnkd.in/eGBaRWu3 "Our growing compassionate community really appreciates how important it is to keep people and beloved pets together, and to help them live well together. However, there are many barriers and challenges. The biggest is housing, specifically temporary and emergency housing which do not allow pets, resulting in additional significant distress, and sometimes homelessness or forced relinquishment. We are having to be reactive because others are saying “no”. Animal companionship is not all positive and we are evidencing a lot of challenges especially when there is significant mental health or critical changes in circumstances. We want to encourage more care planning where there are pets, so when owners need support it is clear and easy for others to step in. Research is needed for the most effective solutions to safeguard the health and welfare of people and animals; and we will explore working with academics to be part of this. Lack of pet-inclusive housing and the crises in so many sectors means that community outreach is vital in this everchanging and challenging world. The dearth of community care is making it increasingly difficult for everyone experiencing vulnerability. We need joined up integrated services and proactive care planning to help prevent crises. Our society needs widespread pet-inclusive accommodation, including sheltered housing, care facilities, mental wards and homeless hostels, and strong networks of multi-disciplinary support for these important life-enhancing and life-saving human-animal bonds. Our collaborative approach is only possible with sustainable funding, vital volunteers and policy changes. We are proud of our role in identifying and supporting unmet need and look forward to doing more. There is a busy time ahead." #AnimalCompanionshipSupportServices #AnimalCompanionship #PeopleInNeed #AnimalsInNeed #HumanAnimalBond

https://lnkd.in/e69ymD9B This is how all shelters should be run and look like especially in this country where there is enough money to do so. We need to demand change and save them all instead of listening to and making excuses and allowing these shelters to think that killing them is acceptable. It is not! We need to demand the change and be their voices. Millions of healthy innocent dogs are killed in this country. It's time to change this unnecessary awful situation. There are so many things that can be done to help stop this. Why do corporations in this country make billions yearly from animal lovers but not reinvest to save more? 🙏🐶💖

Mutual aid is at the heart of everything we do at Kaizen. As a refugee-founded and refugee-led food access nonprofit org, we know firsthand the power of coming together. We survived the pandemic by coming together. You can’t get more grassroots than this. It’s about humans supporting humans, making sure everyone has access to healthy, nutritious food—because we all deserve it. And yes, we grow food too! Rather than relying solely on outside help, we’re building a stronger, more self-sufficient community. Through our food aggregation programs, grassroots advocacy, guerrilla marketing, and community-grown food, we’re not just providing food—we’re part of a movement bigger than us, led by those directly impacted.🌱 How can we, as a community, continue to support each other and drive lasting change?

Today is International Guide Dog Day - celebrating the important role Guide Dogs play in supporting people all around the world. We proudly partner with Guide Dogs Australia as our charity partner for Dialogue in the Dark programs and have seen first-hand the vital role Guide Dog services play in empowering individuals who are blind or have low vision to lead independent lives. The theme this year urges us all to learn the laws about Guide Dogs access – “Wherever you can go, Guide Dogs can go too”. Access issues consistently get in the way of Guide Dogs Handlers being able to get to where they need to go, with almost every second journey for Guide Dog Handlers resulting in a refusal from a taxi or rideshare, even though it’s the law to let Guide Dogs travel. Watch a short video for further understanding: https://lnkd.in/gfKwgMgm And visit https://lnkd.in/er5Ti6Yj to learn the law about Guide Dogs access. #internationalguidedogday2024 #IGDD

Take care of your aged... 😘🧓👵🫂 You often see nature videos depicting mature birds feeding the chicks, but not the other way around. However, some animals - notably birds, elephants, wolves, monkeys, dolphins and whales - are seen caring for the aged members among them. The aged among us are often frail and less mobile, fall sick easily, and can be grumpy. It is easy to be impatient with them. I know I feel that way often, and I have to work at suppressing my own impatience. But when I remember the patience and care they show us when we were young and helpless, it becomes difficult to leave them helpless without doing something to give them comfort. What say you, fellow social animals? Do you find it difficult to take care of the aged? Or do you say HELL NO as you remove their soiled adult diapers with delighted relish? I am Stephen Tan, and I write about #leadership, #management and #fundraising. 👀 my latest posts here: https://lnkd.in/g7j29kqU 🙋 Follow me on LinkedIn: https://lnkd.in/gPAgBfaT #lifelessons | #people | #relationships | #health | #agedcare | #family | #mentalhealth | #motivation | #whatinspiresme #LBFAlumni | #skyhightower

This purrrfectly demonstrates how real estate can build a better community, particularly for our feline friends! Check out how CIRES supports VOKRA's mission and the valuable service they provide. #VOKRA #commercialrealestate #communityeconomicdevelopment
How CIRES Supports VOKRA in Rescuing Vancouver’s Orphan Cats and Kittens At CIRES, we believe in creating thriving, equitable, and vibrant communities by supporting a mix of small businesses, non-profits, and social enterprises. We are proud to collaborate with Vancouver Orphan Kitten Rescue Association (VOKRA) which plays a vital role in rescuing and caring for orphaned cats and kittens in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside. In our latest video, CIRES Board Chair Duncan Wlodarczak visits VOKRA to highlight how our affordable commercial spaces help them continue their essential work. As Duncan explains, "CIRES’ mission is to provide affordable spaces to non-market tenants so they can continue to offer vital services to the community. It’s important that VOKRA is leasing with CIRES so they can take advantage of the non-market rent." Located in the Downtown Eastside, VOKRA benefits immensely from the community-centric approach of CIRES. By ensuring VOKRA has an affordable, supportive space, we enable them to focus on what they do best—rescuing and finding homes for cats and kittens in need. Watch the full video to learn more about this special collaboration and see some adorable cats in action. A big thank you to VOKRA for welcoming us into their facilities and showing us around. 🔗 Watch the full video: https://lnkd.in/ewbW6RGK To get involved with VOKRA or make a donation, visit their website: https://lnkd.in/gnmvPqMY Learn more about CIRES and our mission and how you can partner with us in our mission towards creating stronger and more inclusive communities. 📹 by Nathaniel Canuel #vancouverorphankittenrescue #VOKRA #CIRES #Commercialrealtestate #Vancouver #Vitalservices #nonprofit #strongercommunities
