About us

At Kaizen Food Rescue, our mission is to prevent food wastage, shift systems that have posed challenges and inequities for our community, and improve food justice and health equity in the Denver Metro area. The non-profit organization was founded in 2019 by Thai Nguyen, a refugee with the premise of helping other refugees and families in need. The groundwork of “Kaizen Food Rescue” was laid and projected due to the kindness shown to her from Doctors Without Borders and many others in refugee camps before finally making it to the states. She understands the needs of the people, especially when it comes to food, and doesn’t discriminate. Kaizen Food Rescue believes that healthy and culturally relevant food should be accessible to all, and our approach is to create continuous improvement surrounding food security and food justice in the Denver Metro area. In 2021, Kaizen Food Rescue redistributed nearly 5 million pounds of healthy food to thousands of families and reduced 4,017,631.41 emissions of CO2-e or equivalent 982.79 years of electricity consumption for one household.

  • 🌱 What is a Community Pop-Up Food Share? 🌱 Our community pop-up food share is more than just food distribution—it’s a continuation of a powerful legacy as sentient beings. Inspired by all those who came before us, who used food as a tool for social justice, these food shares are place-based initiatives led by local residents committed to dismantling systemic barriers to food access. Rooted in the fight for equity and justice, our pop-ups address food apartheid and its compounding effects on under-resourced communities. By sharing culturally relevant, healthy food—and ensuring no good food goes to waste—we’re not just meeting immediate needs; we’re empowering communities to transform the system from the inside out. Together, we grow food, redistribute food, and work alongside fellow changemakers to advocate for meaningful policy changes around food justice. History fuels action. Join us in honoring this legacy and building thriving, self-determined communities. #FoodJustice #CommunityLegacy #KaizenFoodRescue #EquityInAction

This incredible impact wouldn’t be possible without the support of Food Bank of the Rockies, our amazing local farmers and growers, and our dedicated volunteers who make it all happen. Together, we’re creating a more equitable and sustainable food system. Help us continue this vital work by making a donation at kaizenfoodrescue.org. • 🌱 Kaizen x Commún: A New Path to Food Justice in Loretto Heights 🛒 Did you know that Loretto Heights is a food desert, where access to fresh, affordable, and culturally relevant food is limited? Together, Kaizen and Commún are changing that by collaborating to create a co-op grocery store! ✨ What’s a co-op? It’s a grocery store owned and operated by the community—for the community. This means: ✅ Fresh, affordable, and healthy food options ✅ Support for local farmers and food producers ✅ A focus on cultural food traditions and preferences ✅ A say in how the store is run 💡 Why it matters: Co-ops empower communities to thrive. By bringing this model to Loretto Heights, we’re tackling systemic inequities in food access while building a sustainable, community-centered solution. 📍 Get involved: We’re looking for community members, partners, and advocates to join us in making this vision a reality. Let’s work together to transform Loretto Heights into a thriving hub of food equity and resilience! 💬 Share your thoughts! What would YOU want to see in a community co-op grocery store?
