Inspired by all those who came before us, who used food as a tool for social justice, these food shares are place-based initiatives led by local residents committed to dismantling systemic barriers to food access. Rooted in the fight for equity and justice, our pop-ups address food apartheid and its compounding effects on under-resourced communities. By sharing culturally relevant, healthy food—and ensuring no good food goes to waste—we’re not just meeting immediate needs; we’re empowering communities to transform the system from the inside out. Together, we grow food, redistribute food, and work alongside fellow changemakers to advocate for meaningful policy changes around food justice. History fuels action. At Kaizen, we proudly redistributed 3% of the 93 million pounds of food provided by Food Bank of the Rockies—that’s 3 million pounds of fresh, nutritious food, or the equivalent of 75 fully loaded semi-trucks, this year alone! Together, Kaizen and Commún are changing that by collaborating to create a co-op grocery store! ✨ What’s a co-op? It’s a grocery store owned and operated by the community—for the community. This means: ✅ Fresh, affordable, and healthy food options ✅ Support for local farmers and food producers ✅ A focus on cultural food traditions and preferences ✅ A say in how the store is run 💡 Why it matters: Co-ops empower communities to thrive.
