Today is International Guide Dog Day - celebrating the important role Guide Dogs play in supporting people all around the world. We proudly partner with Guide Dogs Australia as our charity partner for Dialogue in the Dark programs and have seen first-hand the vital role Guide Dog services play in empowering individuals who are blind or have low vision to lead independent lives. The theme this year urges us all to learn the laws about Guide Dogs access – “Wherever you can go, Guide Dogs can go too”. Access issues consistently get in the way of Guide Dogs Handlers being able to get to where they need to go, with almost every second journey for Guide Dog Handlers resulting in a refusal from a taxi or rideshare, even though it’s the law to let Guide Dogs travel. Watch a short video for further understanding: https://lnkd.in/gfKwgMgm And visit https://lnkd.in/er5Ti6Yj to learn the law about Guide Dogs access. #internationalguidedogday2024 #IGDD

Dog or cats - 🐕 Sweet or salty - 🧀 Tea or coffee - ☕ .... and the eternal debate of pineapple on pizza (always 🍍 !!) While we may not solve all these today, we are introducing our fantastically fun polygons #30daymapchallenge map that unveils the UK's furry loyalties! Using an index of visits to dog and cat charity websites, each local authority district across the UK has been ranked by how much they like dogs vs cats. Charnwood is the most dog-friendly district while Peterborough are most in favour of cats. Do you live in a dog or cat lover area? #audienceinsights #index #webinsights #weblogdata https://lnkd.in/egvNDFT2

Did you know that in the UK your dog must have two forms of identification on them? 🆔 In line with the Control of Dogs Order 1992 their tag must have the owner's name, address, and postcode engraved onto a tag. It is also recommended that you put your phone number on there as well and never put your dog's name on their tag as this could increase the chances of strangers calling them over and potentially dog knapping them! You could be charged with a £5,000 fine if you’re found not complying with this piece of legislation so it's important to make sure your dog always has some form of physical ID on them as well as ensuring their microchip details are up to date in case they ever get lost. #identity #dogs #safety #charity #awareness

The bright lights and fireworks tonight may be thrilling for us, but they can be overwhelming for guide dogs (and all animals) - causing them anxiety or making them want to hide.🐶🎇 You can help your furry friends feel safer during the noise with a few simple steps. 🐾 Exercise Before Dark A good walk before the fireworks start can help your dog feel relaxed. 🍚 Feed Early Give your dog their meal early, so they can settle in before the noise begins. 🏡Create a Safe Space Set up a quiet area with their favourite blanket or toy and maybe play some gentle background noise. 🤗 Stay Calm Act as if everything’s normal to reassure them. It can be a noisy and scary time, so a little extra care can go a long way in helping your animals. 💙 #GuideDogs #FireworksSafety #WarwickshireVisionSupport #Charity #BonfireNight

You know that Peterborough Humane Society receives pets in all sorts of physical and mental conditions, heals them and then adopts them to their fur-ever family. But what you might not know is we offer emergency boarding to pets of individuals feeling domestic violence. We provide these pets love and care for up to 30 days (before we re-engage with the owner) without cost to the individual. We can do this work because of supporters donating to our SNOOY (Safe Nights for Pets) fund. Now we want to expand SNOOPY to include individuals that are experiencing non-preventable situations like fire, flood and hospitalizations. But we need money to ensure we can help more individuals. This is where you come in. Please vote for our submission (link below) in the Community Contest presented by McDougall Insurance & Financial. This is a popularity contest and you can vote once a day per email. Voting ends next Friday so please vote now and tell someone else to vote for us. https://lnkd.in/ggvvhjyV

Can you imagine having to choose between a home and your beloved pet? This is the heartbreaking reality for many Canadians. Over 60% of households in Canada have cats or dogs, and more than 70% see them as family members. Sadly, the shortage of pet-friendly housing in our country is a major problem, making many families choose between a home and keeping their companion animals. Many shelters are at capacity, dealing with an influx of surrenders from families facing this reality. From August to September 10, our goal is to raise $10,000 through our Tails of Summer Challenge. By donating today, you’re helping us to continue to work with policymakers, raise public awareness, and support pet owners facing housing challenges. Every dollar raised in support of our work brings us closer to a Canada where no one has to choose between their home and their companion animal family members. Give today to make a difference https://lnkd.in/gn5VEQhX

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours! In the spirit of the giving season, I wanted to take a moment to remind my dear friends at #NorthropGrumman to take advantage of all the MyGiving benefits- from donation matches to corporate grants for volunteering. If you're an animal lover in the Northern Virginia area looking for a way to make an impact- check out Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue. Is there a more wonderful way to get volunteer hours than fostering a homeless animal? The last few years have seen lower adoption rates post-pandemic, and an increase in animals coming back to no-kill rescues as owners pass away or family circumstances change. Factor in the impact of inflation on food and medicine costs, and rescue organizations need all the help they can get right now. To my friends not currently at Northrop Grumman, if your company offers similar benefits, please utilize them! Every little bit helps for organizations like Fancy Cats & Dogs Rescue, and matching programs double the impact. (Please repost to spread awareness) #volunteering #charitablegiving #animalrescue https://fancycats.org/

This Giving Tuesday, let’s give the gift of love—and find it in return. ❤️🐾 Every year, millions of dogs wait in shelters, longing for a home and a family to call their own. Some have known love and lost it, while others are discovering for the first time that humans can be kind. When you adopt, you don’t just save a dog’s life—you transform your own. My two amazing rescue dogs—Willard on the right and Kokopelli on the left have taught me lessons about loyalty, resilience, and unconditional love that I never knew I needed. Each one has their quirks, their stories, and their boundless ability to give, even after facing so much. Today, I invite you to consider how you can help: 🐶 Adopt a dog from a shelter—they’re waiting for you. 🤝 Volunteer your time at a local rescue. 💵 Donate to an organization that’s working to save animals. (Message me if you would like references to some organizations, and I'm happy to share along with their tax information) Giving isn’t just about money; it’s about opening your heart. And when you give to a shelter dog, you’ll find that they give back more than you could ever imagine. Let’s make the world better, one wagging tail at a time. 🌟 #GivingTuesday #AdoptDontShop #RescueDogs #LoveUnleashed

Today is #WorldKindnessDay. A day to highlight highlights the importance of compassion, empathy, and kindness. Life is a struggle and heavy for many right now. A study done in 11 Canadian cities found that the unhoused population increased by 40% between February 2020 and October 2023. It is estimated that 10% of unhoused people have pets, usually medium or large-sized dogs. With so many people struggling, it can be hard to find hope. But, every act of kindness, no matter how small, makes a huge difference. What can you do? 🏡 Donate to reputable organizations that shelter people with pets or those fleeing domestic violence with pets 🥣 Donate cat and dog bowls, blankets, basic equipment, or toys to these organizations 🍽️ Donate cat and dog food to pet food banks 🧡 Volunteer You can see several of these organizations on our #FridayFeature! Are you an organization that helps unhoused people with pets? Contact us to be added to our directory or to be featured on our socials. Every little bit of kindness goes a long way. #WorldKindnessDay2024 #WelfareForAnimals #PetFoodBanks

What a great initiative VCA Animal Hospitals. And what a wonderful picture... Talking of pictures, this completely fits into my picture of VCA Animal Hospitals: They are organized, well-run, and very deliberate, with a clear purpose and mission. That's why they are doing this. That's why they get around to doing this! Over the last eight months, I have visited over 120 veterinary clinics, some of them several times, to discuss the Rainbow Box and its benefits for the clinic, their staff, and their clients. When you walk into a veterinary practice, you only have to observe for a few minutes to get a good read on whether it is organized (minus the chaos that sometimes happens). You can actually smell it. Odor control is one of those things: if you don't tackle odors consistently—if it's an afterthought or something you do 'when you have the time'—it's not going to be effective. And this applies to every aspect of running a business/ clinic. If afterlife care is an afterthought, if it only happens when somebody takes personal initiative or the intern has some extra time, you miss out on an opportunity to reconnect with your loyal clients. Most importantly, their clients miss out- in a moment when they need it the most. No time in a pet owner's life has more gravitas than the moment he decides to let go and, more importantly, the days, weeks, and months after. When you walk out of the clinic with an empty leash, something very important in your life is suddenly missing... I know exactly what I am talking about. A few days ago, our vet burdened me with making this decision for my companion, Bentley. He is still fine right now (mostly), hanging in there, but the clock is ticking. My clock is ticking. You don't want to be early, but you do not want to be too late: missing the opportunity to provide a 'good death' when it was still time. Even with hindsight, you will not know if you were early—you only know when it was too late. And it can haunt you—for a long time, sometimes for the rest of your life. Again, an organized and well-run clinic will help you with this. It's a process; nothing you (want to) decide on the spot. Luckily, I still have some time. Hopefully, weeks or a month even...
VCA Charities and our 20+ shelter partners have taken more than 5,000 shelter dogs on field trips since the start of the Dog Day Out program. This has led to a reported increase in adoption, foster, or rescue placement for these shelter dogs. #AdoptaDogMonth
