One of my biggest career highlights to date was working with Wes' team on the Maven Course Accelerator. It was an invaluable opportunity to learn from some of the best when it comes to marketing, communication, and teaching. Here are three game-changing concepts I learned: 🌵"Spiky points of view" ⚡️Turning "insights" into "assertions" 🔬"The question behind the question" More on each below: 🌵 First up, "spiky points of view." Here's how Wes defines these: "A spiky point of view is a perspective others can disagree with. It’s a belief you feel strongly about and are willing to advocate for. It’s your thesis about topics in your realm of expertise." Read her full post here: https://lnkd.in/eSftrchJ ⚡️ Next up, turning "insights" into "assertions." It's common practice for people to share insights at work. But far less common to make assertions about what should be done in light of them. The latter requires rigorous thinking and ownership of associated risks. That's how you drive organizations forward. 🔬 Last up, "the question behind the question (QBQ)." Here's how Wes defines this: "When a person asks you something, there's the surface question—but there is often a deeper layer. It's usually something the other person is trying to uncover. It could be a deeper worry, concern, or curiosity. Most of the time, it's subconscious. The person might not even know why your answer doesn't seem good enough." Read Wes' full post to learn how to answer questions in a way that gives you a competitive advantage (by addressing QBQs upfront): https://lnkd.in/erZXQ4gP I can't recommend Wes enough as a teacher and I encourage you to join her course if you're ready to amplify your impact at work:

✨ Some news: I’m thrilled to share that I’m launching a course! Since leaving Maven almost exactly a year ago, I knew I wanted to eventually create my own course and invest heavily in making it extremely valuable for ambitious operators who want to do their best work. The inaugural cohort was announced last week, and sold out in 24 hours. I’m incredibly grateful for the response and excited to meet y’all in a few short weeks. I’ve opened a second cohort in October, which is now open for enrollment (currently ~60% full). Students include operators from: Uber TikTok Grammarly Workday CVS Google Wealthsimple New York Times Pinterest Expedia Sephora Twilio Spotify GitHub Zillow PayPal Netflix Square etc 𝗪𝗛𝗬 𝗜 𝗕𝗨𝗜𝗟𝗧 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦: If you're a high performer, you likely got to where you are because of your raw talent and ability to execute. But now that your scope has grown, your ability to increase impact depends on how well you influence OTHER people--often without formal authority. In other words, you need people to do what you want them to do--enthusiastically and collaboratively. Unfortunately, no one teaches us how to do this beyond a basic level. This is what you will learn to do in this course. 𝗖𝗢𝗨𝗥𝗦𝗘 𝗖𝗨𝗥𝗥𝗜𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗨𝗠 • How to be direct (without seeming like a jerk) • How to stay calm and perform well in high-stakes real-time conversations • How to frame 90% around others & maximize buy-in • How to work with (not against) human nature • How to delegate while maintaining high standards • How to articulate your POV clearly and concisely • How to present to your CEO to maximize highly visible moments • How to get buy-in from colleagues outside your team • Etc The goal isn't simply to learn the concepts--it's to internalize them. I've designed this course specifically so you begin to build your intuition and muscle memory. This is a highly-interactive course with in-depth discussion, Q&A, examples, case studies, exercises, and tactics you can apply immediately. We will focus on both the "why" and tactical pieces around the "how." 𝗪𝗛𝗢 𝗜𝗦 𝗧𝗛𝗜𝗦 𝗙𝗢𝗥: Folks who will get the most from this course tend to be the following: - You care about quality, rigor, and setting a high bar for yourself and others - You want to sharpen your ability to execute - You are self-aware, open-minded, intellectually honest I hope to see you in class. :] Course details here: https://lnkd.in/eDRDV8Ep
That's fantastic to hear about your experience with Wes and his team! Learning from industry experts is invaluable. Alexandra Allen The concept of "spiky points of view" is particularly intriguing. How have you applied this concept to your own work and what impact has it had?
