An Airflow and a duck walked into a bar… Here are 5 things I learned from meeting Marc Lamberti in real life: 1/ Many people think any software engineer can present and teach (especially technical topics). But in reality, it’s hard! Teaching is a skill you have to practice and build over time. 2/ Measuring the impact of teaching from a business perspective is tough, especially if your business doesn’t sell courses. It’s more than just tracking views or subscribers. But hearing messages like "I got a job thanks to your course" is worth more than any metric. 3/ Startup life is a wild rollercoaster. One moment, you're hiring like crazy, and a few months later, everything falls apart… then it goes back up again. Having a good work-life balance really helps you deal with these ups and downs. 4/ Companies come and go, but your personal brand is something that stays with you forever. 5/ Marc is taller than me. Not a big surprise, though—most people are. Meeting people in person lets you see a different side of them—or maybe it just clears up any assumptions you had about them online. Marc turned out to be kind, humble, and, of course, an amazing teacher. Definitely a must-follow!

Teaching is indeed not something everyone can do. Some of the best developers I met weren't able to teach or didn't want. This is why it's even more important to embrace the ones who can and want! I have my own blog, teaching people KDB/Q one step at a time. Go and check it out! www.defconq.tech

I met Marc at the Airflow Summit in Toronto and I must say he is quite tall. Great lesson shared! As someone who has facilitated/taught many Business/Data Analytics courses for my current employer, I have to agree with you that it is difficult to measure the impact from a business perspective. However, with a survey at the start and at the end of every cohort to gauge their skill level on a particular topic, you can look back at the hiring or performance trends in a few months and see if that can be attributed to the course the employees enrolled in.
